Stopping the engine

Is it better to turn off the engine with the key, or with the kill switch? I have the CBR 250, which is fuel injected. The dealer told me to turn it off with the kill switch. Does it matter?

It does not matter, I always use the key to turn bike off and put it in my pocket before I get off my bike, you won't believe how many times I left the key on the bike when I used to use kill switch

I just turn the key off as well. Your car is most likely fuel injected too, do they have kill switches? :p
Every once in a while I use the kill switch if I just stop but know I am not getting off the bike (just waiting for someone for example) to make sure that it still works. Wouldn't want it to be defective when I actually need it.

Better odds of remembering to take the key out if you use it to shut off engine.

I always use the key...once in a while the kill switch just for the heck of it.

It doesn't really matter. I use the kill switch every time, but only out of force of habit. If you're splitting hairs, using the kill switch places wear on two components instead of one, but very few people are going to actually wear out the kill switch. :P On my first bike, I very frequently would forget my keys in the ignition in a high pedestrian traffic area, amazing that nobody ever stole it!

Good to know! Although my habit is leaving the key in the rear seat lock after I lock up my helmet! So far nobody has taken my bike, or my helmet.

i use my kick stand

Using the kill switch always will make it a habit, and your first choice in an emergency when it arises. In other words, there are worse habits to have.

There's other threads on this from previous years....and again, some mechanics will tell you NOT to use the kill switch. It's not meant for that and it's parts may not stand up to the wear. It is for emergency only. The ignition is metal and made to be turned on and off far more than any plastic kill switch pieces...

I use the kill switch every time..it's complete habit and I can't see it causing damage ever.

What does the owner's manual say? Always good to check the manufacturer's opinion.

Race cars do have kill switches.

It's not obvious that kill switch and ignition key are going to do the same thing. Kill switch is meant for immediate (emergency) shutdown of all functions in the vehicle. Ignition shutdown may be performing the shutdown in a "cleaner" way, e.g. by finishing the cycle the engine is in to burn off the rest of the fuel, etc. I don't think it matters all that much in practice though. I use the key myself.

Normally the key, occasionally the side stand switch. Every once and a while the kill switch to make sure it still works.

in the M1 Exit course i took, they say use the key, using the kill switch all the time puts wear on a part that you want in an emergency. personally i just use the key because then i remember to take it with me, plus if you are locking the steering you are really using two parts that essentially do the same thing, except a few more options with the key...there are some very good points in the posts above me...

OR THE KICK STAND

ohh someone already said that
