stop and go highway traffic question

hey just wondering if using the shoulder on the highway in stopped traffic is like using the parked car lane? I feel like it would be safer.
what do people do in highway rush hour type traffic

This is a tough question.
I guess it depends how long you have been sitting in traffic. If a really long time 45 min or more.
I would just work my way up slowly to an EXIT and get off the highway, use the shoulder a little pass a few cars...get back into right lane...safely then repeat.

I was going north on dufferin st north of steeles in the bus lane then took the bike lane to make a right on clark and two cops saw me do it, nothing came of it. =D Lucky I guess or they just knew they couldent get to me once I got on the bike lane. I dont do this often but I had to take a $h!t and my clutch hand was cramping up ;P.

ahhahahah

Thats an interesting read turbodish. I was reading it more than half-way through convinced he was going to get off all charges, but ended up getting pwned instead.

I was thinking the exact same thing!
Reading that entire document was like watching a movie with a really good unexpected twist. This isn't Hollywood, the "star of the movie" didn't win.

I lane split (if its completely gridlocked) to the nearest way out (offramp, side street, whatever). Can't stand traffic, so I don't get myself into it on the bike.

If it's just moving somewhat slowly, tough it out.
Not an option when I'm riding from Guelph to Mississauga. I guess I could take highway 7 or something but that would take even longer (although at least it would be moving). If I got off at the first place I could when the highway stopped I wouldn't make it to Milton half the time.
Stop for a smoke.

So riding on the shoulder is a stunting ticket? How am I stunting when (hypothetically) doing 40 on the shoulder when everyone else is standing still.
Again, I'd never get to work or I'd get home around 8pm (since the highway is crap until like 7:30pm).

I would only use the shoulder if i was directly behind the obstruction and there was no reason to stay and there were no emergency vehicles anywhere near.

If your vehicle is breaking down I don't see why you couldn't park on the shoulder but be ready to walk it to one side if an emergency vehicle needs the space.
