stickered fenders

What is with the trend I have seen lately where a front fender (this si what i usually see), typically on a japanese sub compact / tuner type car is covered in a variety of stickers?

Is this something people are doing in lieu of a needed paint fix or other body work?

We all know that adding stickers to any vehicle brings with it an immediate hp boost, but I though they have to be spread out not just covering one body panel

Nothing new here. People like to show off how much they spend on their 'mods' and to look like a real racer.

I don't get why people do this free advertising.

Anybody wants a Delcan (company I work for) sticker for their fender or bumper I'll gladly send them one ;)

what I have seen exceeds the parts you have are describing. It is just random stickers added to completely cover a body panel.

edit, found a picture on google to show what I am talking about

The pro show/tuner guys put their PAID sponsor's logos on their car's fenders. Ricky Racer does it to look like a pro. The jury is still out on pro what.

Majority of the time they don't even have the product the sticker is for lol.

Like when you see NOS stickers and turbo kit stickers on the fart box civics.

OP is not talking about sponsor stickers, but something like sticker gixxer...

At least 3 of the stickers I have on my truck (race hauler) and trailer are from sponsors so I'm semi-legit.

I have no idea what these idiots are doing but race cars have stickers on the fenders (fenders cuz' they have already sold all the space on the main body to the REAL sponsors) for contigency monies.
If you win a race, or sometimes back as far as 15th place, use "Part X" and have "Part X"s sticker on your fender (or where ever the contract says) you gets PAID, usually with REAL MONEY... not like the cheap tire companies that will only give you product.
In a lot of races the contingincy money is better than the prize money... A LOT better.

I have yet to see anyone walking around a Timmie's parking lot handing out contingency cheques.

Some of those stickers are also required by the race organization regardless of who your sponsors are (like the CSRA requires)

I ain't advertizing for anyone for free.
You give me money or product, I'll wear your pink tshirt.

I don't even like the fact my truck says GMC on the grill.
I have never painted a race car in my life.
That's a sponsor's job. I make 'em go fast... pretty is some one else's job... and expense.

And race sponsors.
In the eighties we had the "Castrol Cup" and you had to have a Castrol sticker on the right fork leg... which is weird because on the tracks around here the left side faces the stands.
If you ran the Battle of the twins you had to have a BOTT sticker on the tank or fairing.
I still a couple of bikes with "John Nelson Memorial" stickers.

Tech checked you had the appropriate stickers, or you didn't pass tech.

If any one has the old Castrol or BOTT stickers I'll buy them.

Can't say I've ever seen anything like that. That's hideous.

I've got no answer as to why someone would do that.... Speechless

Not sure what TV consumption was in the 80's, but I think this makes sense as the sticker is primarily for TV viewership and not for the people in the stands. If it's on the right fork leg and that's closest to the apex, then most likely gets the best TV exposure.

Around here we go around the track clockwise, placing, for the most part, the left side facing out.
The rest of the world goes around the track anti-clockwise, placing the right side out.

I would imagine the decision to put the sticker on the right leg was made in Europe.

Isn't it counter clockwise at Laguna Seca and Daytona?

Yep
That why I changed the wording.

What are they going to do when Mosport gets Nascar? They only know how to turn left.
