Steps after a conviction?

I got a ticket last year & I thought the court date was in October...turns out it was September & I'm an idiot. I still could've sworn it was October, but I'm still looking for the slip (& I'd imagine that I'm probably wrong). Every time I try to call their office, I'm on hold for an hour & no one ever picks up.

Is there anything that I can do at this point (assuming that it was actually September & not October). Is there absolutely no way to fix this or at least mitigate the damage?

It's actually not bs when I say I've been dealing with a lot of stuff. So even if I got the date right, there's a very good chance I still wouldn't have been able to make it (due to personal reasons). Would the court be sympathetic if I could prove it?

Believe me, I feel stupid .

file for an appeal to have the case reopened because you weren't there and got convicted by default...

Exactly what I was looking for. Thanks Ronin & Jamie.

Do court dates ever come through as registered mail?

None of mine ever have, because only bad news comes by registered mail, so I always refuse it. For important things, they'd always send it by regular AND registered mail ;)

Awesome. Looks like not all hope is lost...Thanks a lot!

It says you got 15 days after being aware of the conviction to reopen the case. If it was me I would come up with a better excuse then simply saying you got the months switched, even though that probably happens a lot. Good luck

They might just tell you that ignorance is not an excuse but, if it means that much to you then have legal representation pursue it for you if you are that busy.

i got one reopened after i got the conviction notice in the mail. It is possible, however i had to apply in person in the applicable court.
