Stator Cover Nightmare

Hey everyone.

I'll try to be brief. I've spent the last month patiently waiting on a new stator cover for my 08 Ninja 250R, as I ended up putting a crack in my existing one. This had resulted in a slow but dangerous oil leak, as the drip finally started to run off my fairing and spray the left side of my rear.

I have been waiting for the new OEM part to come in for some time, with it largely being on back order (bit of a story, water under bridge). That's just lost time at this point, and my only real interest is getting my bike back on the road. I've been told that it will be another month for the part to actually arrive, which makes me cringe - need to move on.

I'm trying to figure out my options. Salvage, aftermarket, or repair?

I've reach out to Ontario Cycle Salvage, and have been told to try Zdeno. I've come up with nothing in terms of aftermarket parts either - or I just don't know where to look.

In terms of repair.... does something like that look fixable? It's about an inch long, single hairline crack. I'd be more than willing to generously donate to someone's beer fund if it meant getting this thing repaired and on the road ASAP. Or perhaps a shop that can take care of it.

I've got the gasket, new o-rings for the rad hoses which will be disconnected, but no damn cover. And the summer just goes by... I'm desperate. Another month is not okay :(.

Any help would be much appreciated

Get one off ebay?

I've checked eBay and cannot find much, to be completely honest. Kijiji and Craigslist, too. Most would involve paying through the nose to cross the boarder, not to mention the time. I'm really hoping for something just a little faster, given I've already lost a month.

Jb weld clean it good first and you will be good to go.

I feel your pain. Been dealing with stator/stator cover issues for months now. Right now I'm replacing the cover but luckily theres lots of aftermarket for my bike.

Find a welder or someone who has a machine. They can do it quickly. IF you're ever in Mississauga, I know a guy who has a weld machine in his garage, I could ask him to weld it for a small fee.

In the meantime, you can try using some high temperature silicone (home depot has it in the fireplace section). IT wont' seal it up but it might help with the oil loss, at the least when the bike is parked. You can also keep your bike on stands, usually no oil should drip out of the stator cover if the bike is upright.

Ton Up Bikes in Scarborough does welding

I think TIG weld can repair that, and a fresh paint will surely help. By the way have tried asking your local dealers about the cover availability?

A weld it is - it's such a thin, small crack that it sounds like that should do the trick just fine.

As for sourcing locally, that's the one thing I've tried a whole bunch of. I have all the other parts I need, just not this one.

Thanks for tips!

Kawaski Canada has that cover 14031-0080 backordered till Aug 7th

And Kawasaki USA well they are just retarded, I just had someone tell me its discontinued with no superseded part number! I had to hang up on them because I just could not understand how a engine cover for a bike up to 2012 is totally discontinued with no other part option...What do they expect everyone to do that needs a stator cover

Give Niagara Race Crafters a call. They are in Virgil(Niagara on the Lake)

I do believe they make heavy duty engine and stator covers for racing and stunting.

August 7th? So glad you said that - I called up the shop looking to pickup the rest of the stuff I ordered, and they let me know the same thing about the cover. I don't know if I trust that anymore, to be honest, but I'm stuck to dealing with this on weekends so I may just wait. What's another week.

Although, the news that it's discontinued from USA is a little disheartening.

Sometimes they push the date back a week at a time, I had that happen for a new 2013 accessory part that was still not made yet when I ordered it. I waited about 2 months for that, but it was a little different then your situation as your engine cover is not a new part and has been the same for some years now..

i don't think they make it for that bike. but it is still worth a call.
