State Farm robbing me??

Hi,

so i signed up with statefarm. First time getting insurance and i have a clean record. It was the cheapest company i found, $1800 for 12 months for a 2010 250 ninja <<too much if u ask me. (i'm 21)

But anyways i got a letter in the mail saying my rate has gone up by $300 so 100$ will be taken from my bank account for the next three months.
* I wanted to know, can they do that?!! nothing has changed,i did not get any tickets or anything. we had a 12 month agreement so i do not think they can change the price whenever they like.

No reason was given so i went to statefarm and asked about it. he said he will ask head office and call me back. He never did so i went back in and he never talked to them. so i came back a week later and told him that i noticed he wrote my VIN # wrong on my insurance card( it was off by one letter), he fixed it right away and then said my insurance went up because they had the wrong vin number...hes a liar cuz i brought that to their attention 3 weeks after they raised my insurance. but anywayz he said it was his fault so hes going to refund me my money and ensure i do not get charged 300$. but to my surprise they swipe another extra 100$ from my account. what should do?? can they legally do that?

if u have any experience please let me know thanks

5555 eglington. ann marie o'neill. i forget the guy's name (the one i have been dealing with). but i think hes the only guy there.
I want to go in soon and talk to him but i am not sure what i can say

As per the Ontario auto insurance owner's booklet, if you were incorrectly classified under their risk classification system, the insurer is allowed to make this correction. They can charge you any resulting additional premium within 60 days of the original agreement but are not allowed to charge you interest in this case. On the other hand, if the correction resulted in you being overcharged, they are supposed to return that extra premium to you with interest. Now, I'm only stating what is already written in your owner's policy. Whether or not your case and the increase in premium is a result of incorrect classification is something you need to determine with your agent. If it was their mistake, I would still fight it and see what happens. Best of luck.

the first part is sounds reasonable but it would only make sense that i should have the power to cancel the policy without penalty if they decide to increase my rates within 60 days. I am definitely going to look at that booklet closely.

What your talking about could be the case but i do not think my agent took the time to actually find out from head office, he just simply tried to brush me off. I am going to go this week and find out wuts the real reason, and have it put down in writing

i will try to to fight it but i am afraid to mess with insurance and cancel my policy, i think i might have to just bite the bullet. In the end they have the power to screw me over, doesnt matter if i switch companies once i am blacklisted they can charge me wutever they want.

Thanks for ur help though!!

As far I know, State Farm does not charge you a cancellation fee. At least this was what I was advised when I signed up with them. This may or may not have changed. As for being blacklisted, it will not happen. It is in your right to initiate the cancellation on your end. Be firm but professional and I am hopeful things will work out. If not, you can pay up or cancel with no detrimental effect on your insurance record. Just a little gap in history which is nothing.

Ya i know, they are crooks and my insurance is bare minimum. lowest 1 million liability and no collision.
hidden government agendas is what i think keeps these guys going cuz otherwise why doesnt the government interfere

i have 3 bikes insurd, 650, 750, and 1000, all for 1500$ pl& pd only. i cant believe your prices that you people pay!

If you are the only licensed MC rider in the house, that makes sense as you can only ride one at a time... the cost of the bike is almost irrelevant when it comes to the premium.

the worst part is you pay liability for every vehicle you own. i.e. i have a car and a bike, i cannot drive them both at the same time. And while one is being used, the other poses negligible risk to others, yet I pay $1k liability on the car and $1k liability on my bike, regardless of whether I own one, the other, or both. That is the b.s. part

guns dont kill people, people kill people; i believe that the person should be insurd not the vehicle and yes im the only motorcycle licensed rider in the house, i do agree that you can only ride one bike at time.

As of my experience, SF do that all the time. They say, there where some changes in insurance rate + additional they charge the "difference charge during next 3 month".

I recently interrupted my relation with SF, because such changes started pissing me off and eating my budget.

There was no charge for interruption though. But you always can say, that you are canceling your insurance with them, because they increased your rate in the middle of agreement while no changes from your side, and that you would never agree with higher rate, if it would be said in the quote you agreed with.

Insurance is getting worse and they'll slam you if you're young. I have a 2011 CBR250R insured with State Farm and it's $750/yr, but I've got 20 years on you.
