Stand Operating Procedure for Cagers who cut you off!

Brake, manoever and smile inwardly at the guy who's wife won't let him ride a m/c.

Seriously? you won't win and what does it prove? I know my job in life is NOT to educate people how to drive. Shake head and carry on

First, I'd suggest reviewing your riding technique. It may be that you aren't optimizing your posibilities for reducing the frequency of getting cut off.

Second, I'd suggest learning some techniques for chilling out when it does happen. Believe me, I know the feeling of anger that results when you get cut off. But, the reality is, you aren't going to win any altercation with a car or truck. And you aren't going to make the driver understand that they were wrong.

No driver I know of will admit that they drive poorly. I know all other drivers drive like arseholes and I'm about the only driver out there that knows what they're doing. But these folks will not listen when I yell at them telling them that they need to learn how to drive better. They just get defensive and/or angry and blame ME for the event.

Best thing to do is prevent it, and if that doesn't work, try to laugh about it and shrug it off.

I've only been cut off twice in my riding career. Your doing something wrong.

I've not been riding too long, but typically if a car is about to cut me off I can see it coming so I back off to not even let him get close. You need to learn to read the traffic flow and anticipate it before it happens.

As for standard procedure for dealing with it...smile and ride on knowing that nothing happened and you're safe.

I drive pretty safe I believe. Since I drove in Pakistan without any gear and insurance( we don't have insurance on bikes), the only person who will save my *** was me. If I get hit, chances are no will pick me up because the police will harass anyone who helps me by asking for bribes or charging him with hitting me. Having said that, I was cut off mostly by people trying to take the DVP at Eglinton( my commute route) from the middle lane while i was driving happily on the right. Also people who just remembered they had to turn into a lane on the right being on the middle lane. I guess driving on the right lane isn't a good idea. Thanks for the advise, I know one cant really do anything about it, but reminding them of their mistake by honking might prevent them the next time( i hope).

Also is the rocket MOD legal?

If my car got hit by an inadverdant marble I would find the person and "explain" why that was a bad idea. Nicely of course.

Were you passing them on the right?

Right, because that's just what you want to do - really annoy a person that has already demontsrated that they're an idiot and that is sitting a few metres behind you at the wheel of a two tonne weapon. Let me know how that works out for you.

To the OP - You may just have had a run of bad luck. I'd think with your experiences in Pakistan that you'd be well equipped to stay out of the way of idiots. Hopefully things get better for you.

Seems to me that everyone has given you wise advice - except the comedians with rockets and marbles.

Think about it - you want to live and you want to enjoy the ride. Stay out of trouble and trouble spots. Also, stay out of the way and no one will be able to "cut you off."

Generally, the cars in front of me are my blockers - If I don't want to get nailed, I stick pretty well close to them - behind them. Guys behind me are on my team and if I'm not in their way, they don't have to go around me and "cut me off."

Stress and anger are out of place on a bike. Since the rider has absolutely no protection, ride calmly and enjoy it. The last thing you can allow yourself to do is think about getting back at someone.

Now, if you are in a hurry and stuck in traffic on the way to work or school - take a bus! I think a bike is a lousy way to go to work or school!

There's a thread about fallen riders. Maybe time for a read. Notice the locations!! Not typical pleasure riding environments, eh?

True words of wisdom. Well said. Also remember you can be right or dead right.

This. Leave your ego at home when you go for a ride.

+1 Welcome to the world of riding 2-wheels. The novelty will wear off just get used to it and take Griffin's advice. Review why you're getting cut off. Is it because the driver doesn't know you're there?

One thing I like to do is accelerate forward to close the gap right to the bumper sometimes of the car in front of me just so the driver to my left or right knows I'm in the next lane to them than I ease back to my safety cushion. Sometimes you can turn your head and look them in the eye. That way they have no excuse to cut you off without signalling.
