Spring Revamp Inquiry!

Hello everyone, I am a new rider in the Etobicoke/Mississuaga area.
I bought my 2002 Suzuki SV650 last October.
It has not been ridden in about 6-8 months. I stored it properly.
However I know It needs a lot of work and I got it quiet cheap so I am thinking I should get it to a shop to get fully cleaned out, flushed and tuned to get it on the road safely before I start riding for the first time.
Any shops anyone can recommend? I am very new to motorcycles so I do not want to get screwed over and told I need more things done than necessary.. Also am not mechanically inclined just yet.
My budget is about 300-500$ to do what is necessary.. I am thinking oil change, flushes, carb clean , valve check etc... maybe new chain sprocket WORST CASE scenerio.

Thank you for any help or suggestions

I'd recommend Ken (kneedragger88 ) on this forum - he'll pick up, fix your bike and bring it back, his prices are also very reasonable. If you want a local mechanic, you can go to Rosey Toes - Ted is very close to Etobicoke (Wlison/Weston).

+1 to vipers comment.

Those 2 shops are the most BS-free shops I've been to.

These guys won't do stuff to your bike unless it needs in, at least that has been my experience (they both have talked me out of mechanical work because the bike didn't need it but I asked for it to be done)

I can vouch for Rosey Toes. He won't bullsh*t you

Whatever you do, dont go to Kahuna Powersports. I was just there, and the shop manager told me that my chain is toast and that it can't be adjusted anymore.

Today I stopped in at Corsa Meccanica. (just a beautiful Italian bike shop. Wow!) and he ttold/showed me that my chain still had plenty of room to adjust and did not need changing. He won a nnew customer with that move.

Rule of thumb: Pull chain back off the rear sprocket, if you can see more than 1/2 tooth then the chain is worn out.

I just posed a big thumbs up on Pro 6 Cycle, they were no ********, and fast. They are increasing their seasonal rate on April 1st, so if you want cheaper labour cost it would be next week.

But they were great. Located at Kipling a block from Bloor.

Learn to do your regular maintenance yourself, you'll save a ton of money, and probably do it better than the shop (its your baby after all). Oil change is stupid easy, valve check/adjust on my bmw is super easy (not sure how it would be on your bike). Get the manual, search online for videos or fine someone with close by that does their own basic stuff. Having someone show you/help/look over your shoulder the first time is a great confidence builder. You don't have to be a mechanic or have a ton of tools to do the regular maintenance.
