Hi all,

I went through a speed trap on the Parklawn offramp. The cop didn't pull me over but I can't see where he could have if he wanted to, there isn't really anywhere he could.

How do these things work?

Does he photograph the plate as you approach and mail the ticket to you or do they photograph you after you pass with a camera from the car and mail that?

Did he get me if I was over?

I havent heard of manned photo radar recently. Sometimes one cop.will run laser and then radio ahead to a waiting swarm to pull you over and write the ticket. In court, unless both cops show up you have a good chance as they need to testify that you were the correct vehicle.

Often they work in pairs or groups for speed traps. One officer will catch you on their lidar, then another officer up ahead will pull you over where it's safer/easier to do so and issue the ticket.

If this happens to you, go to court, like I did. The officer that wrote you the ticket might be there, but both officers have to be there. I asked to question the other officer and he was not there and got it thrown out. This was a number of years ago, I don't know if it still works like that, but the officer writing you the ticket did not see what you did.

I normally just avoid that ramp.
They've had a radar there fairly consistently since they lowered the speed limit from 100/80 to 70/50.
It's a really long ramp with no pedestrian or bicycle traffic, which makes no sense for that low a limit.

They used to pull you over to the left where this sign is, but that was over 10 years ago.

They have been stationed on the left shoulder under this bridge for many many years. I take this ramp often enough to remember and always set my CC to 70 KMs to avid the possibility of getting stopped. The speed limit there doesn't make sense.
I once witnessed a vehicle in the left lane getting stopped while a vehicle in the right light was speeding even faster.

It's much the same when exiting the westbound Gardiner to Lakeshore. Don't carry your Gardiner speed too far down the exit ramp.
They used to sit in the little cut out to the right of the Lakeshore ramp, and clock people after the 60 sign here.
Up to that point it was all yellow 60 signs. So you could still get the remnants of the Humber hump at 100, traffic allowing.
