So a buddy of mine got pulled over by CAMPUS POLICE, we attend the University of Waterloo so there's campus police not real police tho lmao. He received a speeding ticket of going 12 over in a 40 zone . . . the ticket just tells him to pay $40 dollars. Should he just ignore the dam thing since we receive parking tickets from them all the time but we just toss them and nothing happens. Except this time his liscense was taken down by the campus cop. I will tell him to email me the ticket so i can post it up, but any ideas on what he should do? Has anyone received a speeding ticket by a campus cop lmao

Haha that's Western but we're at Waterloo :D and that's the problem, I cannot find the tickets regarding speeding tickets, theres tons of crap on parking tickets :(

I'd contact the city and determine if the roads within the campus are deemed private roads or maintained by the city and indeed city roads.

Oooo true will do! I'm pretty sure it is deemed private road.. but will ask for the official answer.

So i dont know the specifics of UW but in Mohawk and Macmaster if you had a parking tickets and they knew the plate was for a student's (IE its registered for parking pass etc) and they were not paid you could not graduate until you paid the fines with interest. Cost a friend of mine about 1500 extra bucks cause of it. Also unpaid tickets can stop you from renewing your licence so you might want to look into that before just throwing them

the university may not let him graduate until he pays it

and i'm sure the longer he waits, the more late fees and interest charges they'll slap on

but just make sure they're legit HTA tickets, and that they can be fought in a Provincial Court

the question now becomes, will it affect his driving abstract and insurance rates?
_____

the fine seems to be incorrect for a 12 over ticket

$2.50 x 12 over = $33 (Schedule B @ http://www.ontariocourts.ca/ocj/en/setfines/one/schedule43.doc)
Victim Surcharge = $10 (http://www.e-laws.gov.on.ca/html/regs/english/elaws_regs_000161_e.htm)
Court Fee = $5

Fine should be = $48 if it was a legit HTA ticket

so that would be a Fatal Error if it was brought to Trial, JP would toss it

Yeah i kno he never registered his car for a parking pass lmao so not linked to his student profile. For the cars we know are linked we wouldnt pull that crap and just pay for parking lmao since we have like 5 cars altogether at the house.

Wow i see now, i will double check the amount and will definately come back with updated info. Thanks for all the help guys!

And LOL yeah our other buddy got towed one time but i will never pay parking to go to the gym. Luckily i'm bringing my bike in May so no more worrying about silly campus police tickets -.-

Alright so the ticket is not HTA approved so this means it shouldnt be seen by insurance companys im guessing? So he should just pay it off? or just toss it like a parking ticket lmao

This is what it looks like LMFAO some ghetto ticket to pay or to toss that is the question . . .

gotta laugh at how its called a "Fee" and not a "Fine".

If I pay a "fee" , then can I speed around there?

Looks to me to be local "fees" and not HTA etc.

Even if it isn't ticket under the HTA, it would be a fee owing that would stop the person from graduating.

True but ...

Yeah i kno he never registered his car for a parking pass lmao so not linked to his student profile.

So, don't worry about the ticket.

UW grad with tickets on my car. I never registered my vehicle and they never chased me for it and they never will.
