Recently did my spark plugs on my GSXR-600 and noticed that I had to unscrew the cap piece off the top of my CR9E Iridium plugs. This was the first time doing plugs for me and was wondering why I had to unscrew this piece off? Is this a common procedure on all bikes or are they restricted to the type of plugs I was using.

I have never seen anyone remove the top caps off the plugs when replacing car spark plugs.

Just want to learn a little bit about this if anyone has any ideas.

This is a pic for reference: http://raricks.org/plugs.jpg

Thank you

They are different part # for ngk. Those without the cap is a different part. Just remove the cap & you're good

Edit :in the future if you want a genuine response post in the technical forum, unless you like answer from 20yr old amateurs

It depends on the type of plug cap. Some clip onto the thread and so you don't need the threaded piece. Others clip onto the threaded piece. Simple.
