You removed or loosened the stanchion tubes from the triple tree yokes and it didn't come straight?
You sure you don't have a bent stanchion tube?
... probably just twisted in the yokes from having the lock forced.

If that doesn't fix it you need to remove the steering stem and check it for beds or damage.
Might as well service or upgrade your steering head bearings while you at it.
That's how it would have twisted when the ******** forced the lock.
As long as the steering stem is not bent all out of shape I bet that fixes it.
Make sure you get the tension on the steering head bearings right.
