Someone stole my plate!

Came out of an appointment today and noticed something weird about the rear end of my bike. License plate missing. Thought ok maybe it fell off after being on for 3 years (not likely) but took a close up look. I had the plate bolts that are the LED light up type so it had wires coming through the mount holes. Those wires were cut nice and clean. Bastard also decided to cut my right signal wires for no reason unless they were after my LED lights and not my plate. A little ****** considering I have only a couple days of riding left until I'm sent away on a course until October and now I have to fix this in combination with a few hours of work to do on my race bike to race this weekend. At the MP station doing up reports and statements and getting pictures. Probably won't find the guy but hopefully I won't have to pay for a new plate and sticker.

Im pretty sure the sticker is transferable but you will have to pay $10-20 for a new plate...That sucks

Make sure the plate is reported stolen. The ETR will charge you if the plate is used and still registered to you.

+1 to that ... happened to my grandfather .. his plate was stolen and he had a rack of charges from it

You cant even get another plate from the MTO until you get a stolen/lost report from the police station....They ask for it when you ask for a new plate

Plates got stolen on my car a while ago as well. They like to use them when stealing gas.

Had my plate stolen a couple months ago at the Cobourg armouries. SO the jerry rigged plate defender keeps the bike looking neat with protection from ****** losers.

Damn that sucks, did you have to tow the bike home?

What if you have a personalized plate like i do? Do you get a new customized plate (Choose a new one free of charge) or do you just get the standard randomized ones?

Definitely report the plate stolen, immediately, unless you want 407 charges, red light tickets, and police trying to find you because "you" ran from them.

Sorry to hear about the damages to your bike (and the stolen Plate). Where did this happen? On base or Off base??

Good luck to anyone using it and getting stopped by cops. Better to try running (and possibly risking death) cause using plates which do not match a vehicle registration is a serious offense and a lot of explaining to the judge. The vehicle is towed and impounded immediately until the court date, fees and fines add up quickly.

Hardly seems worth the effort to a thief.

Happened right on base in front of the shacks... There are a bunch of other bikes so I'm not sure why mine got targetted since mine is the only one that is in a higher traffic spot and is more likely to have someone see anyone messing around with it... However, the other bikes are in front of the infantry quarters and are more likely to be this guy's buddie's bikes (you'll see why I assume this in a minute)

Funny thing about that... Last friday there was a chase of a SS from on base (guy in my building said they saw the bike come from the direction of the infantry shacks) to off base. By the time the chase had gone about 2km along the main street (High traffic area at the time) the bike already had a big gap on the MPs.
While talking to my officer, I said I heard about a chase on friday and thought it was weird that my plate goes missing not long after. Talked about knowing there are guys that steal plates to have on their bikes and run from the cops if they ever have a cop try to pull them over... Officer agreed it's likely what happened and I can't say much more than that.

Hopefully they catch the dude, the riding community up there is small, we all know eachother so sooner or later the guy will get busted. I know I'll be looking at plates to see if mine shows up. However, I would assume the guy isn't stupid enough to keep riding around the base/town with a stolen plate. There aren't too many bikes up there that are similar either, seems everyone has something different.

New plate cost me $20, the signal light I can easily fix the wires, but I'll need to get another set of those LED bolts to mount my plate.

Everyone should have anti theft bolts or just rivet it on.

These must be a pain in the arse if you need to remove the bolts...

I said "ran", not "stopped." The plate thief runs. Police chase and get the plate, but halt the pursuit. OP has police show up at his home.
