Some more newbie questions on a bike purchase

I read the stickies up at the top of this page but I'm still alittle confused and just need some further clarification .
Here are my questions;

1. Is it possible for a seller not to provide the potential buyer (me) with a UVIP ? If so, what happens then ?

2. Is it possible for a seller to provide a safety certificate to the potential buyer (me) ? Or do I have to go do this myself once I register the bike under my name ?

3. Does the UVIP contain the bikes history (if its been crashed, in debt ... etc) ?

1. It is the buyers responsibility to provide the UVIP! That being said I've purchased many bikes without it! It will cost you 20 bucks for it when you register the bike to you're name

2. The buyer can provide the safety if he agrees to do it! If not you'll have to do it before you get the bike registered!

3. The UVIP Contains previous owners and liens on that said bike. It doesn't say whether the bike as ben in a accident or not! Some clues to this may be present if the UVIP states that previous owner is a insurance company!

Fixed.

That said, not unusual not to get it.. no big deal, just an extra 20 bucks as was said.

3b. You could get a vehicle history report (carfax or similar) if you want accident history.. but a large percentage of single vehicle bike accidents are never reported, so it likely won't do you much good..

I'm a newbie too but i will try my best here lol!

1. Sellers always provide uvip.

2. Either of the sellers or the buyers can do safety. It Depends on the negotiation. Some buyers actually prefer to do safety themselves so that they can do it with a reliable shop. I bargained $100 down on my bike cuz i said i was gonna do the safety.

3. Uvip provides the history of the bike in terms of the past ownerships. I dont think information like the financial situation and if crashed or not is on it.

Also check the ownership to make sure the brand is not salvage. It should say Brand - None.
Doesn't happen often, but I've had a guy try to sell me a bike that couldn't be registered for the street.

Thanks guys n gals,

I just want to be thoroughly prepared before I got meet some random dude and their bike that I saw selling on the net (kijiji to be exact).

i have sold 3 bikes and bought four

none of the bikes i sold had the uvp or whatever its called

only one of the 4 bikes i bought had the uvp or whatever its called..

when you register it.. you pay $20 and get it... its just another money dad by premier dad

Wow I feel real stupid for asking this but its gotta be done,

Is certifying a bike the same as getting it safetied ??

lol.

yes. it's a safety certificate but its very broad. You should not rely on it retrospectively. Make sure you look over the bike you're potentially going to buy carefully.

A safety or certification is only as good as the mechanic performing it!! This is why I prefer to get it done by somebody reputable then have the buyer get it done for cheap at some car shop that does one bike cert in a year!! All that is required for a mechanic to do a safety on a bike is he must have is M license!!
