SOAR Racing @ TMP - Spectators?

Hi all,

I was thinking of going to watch the SOAR racing this Sunday, but have never been to TMP. What are the spectator options there? Just looking over the pit wall, or is there seating (in-laws want to go as well). Anything else relevant would be useful too :-)

Cheers,

Alan

Spectator options are basically limited to what you said: looking over the pit wall. There is a small bank going along the pits and around corner 1. I think the view from it could be quite nice (from the corner 1 area), but I'm not sure you'd be allowed to go on top if it for safety reasons.

And even then I think looking over the pit wall is reserved for people who are part of the racing (pit crew members and etc), not for people who come in just to watch.
Their grandstands are all facing the dragstrip so unless you want to sit backwards at the top corner of the grandstands to watch (it would be a nice view, quite high), I don't think there's anywhere else because SOAR doesn't joke around with safety (I marshall, will be there sunday) and I am sure they will not let you on the grass passed the pit-out on the main stretch.

Sounds like TMP just doesn't want spectators for bike racing. I would have thought a small seating area would be available & sufficient for those who just want to watch some racing live. Is there no market as a spectator sport?

SOAR races are a relatively recent development. TMP is not big enough to attract races that would, in turn, attract audience. I think that most of TMP's business is track rentals for track days and such.

You CAN stand along the wall...at least you could last year. No you cannot sit onto of the burm as some people like to fly over it.

I think standing near the wall is tolerated for now because most people there understand that this is not a place to be careless and the road behind that wall leads to pit-out.
If TMP was beginning to see a hoarde of people coming in just to watch the track races, I am sure the SOAR organizers would start having a problem with random people crowding that wall, especially if they start bringing their kids who may love racing in general, but don't have the attention span to stand still for an extended period of time and watching bikes go by at blurring speeds.

I personally think the wall should only be reserved for people that are part of the event (pit crew, support, organizers, TMP employees) because it could become a huge safety concern if that one careless spectator decides to go for a walk at the wrong time.
Safety is such a huge concern for SOAR, and rightfully so.

@TheDirty: Nice find on the video. Too much gas too early in the turn. Sucks cause I love that generation of Subie. :(

If it was not tolerated to watch from behind the wall, there would be no point to collect 20 bucks from spectators, because there's really no other spot. And I don't think that is something they'd like to do.
