So the red key goes and...

I purchased an R6 that had the red key missing. The red key missing.... it's not the first R6 I've purchased, the last one had the red key, but this one is missing.

I looked around for what I could possibly do that wouldn't cost me a fortune and it's mostly changing the lock system.
I called Kahuna Powersports and... the guy said an entire new system with an immobilizer would cost me $1800 but of course he didn't fail to mention he'd give me a discount...

Have any of you had this occur with your yamaha's?... I really need some guidance.

if you still have the black keys check out r6-forum.com there are some vendors on the site who sell extra keys for your 6, i believe they cost 12 bucks...much better then 1. going to Kahuna, that place is a joke.. and 2. paying 1800 bucks

hope that helps! enjoy the ride!

I don't think just any key will work. I'm in the same predicament as I never got the RED key (programming key) with my 05 R6.

US spec bikes don't have the immobilizer system like canadian & euro bikes. A new front to back immobilizer system is indeed $1800. You loose the red key your screwed. Your other options is swap the entire harness/ecu/ignition & top triple clamp and rekey your gas cap and trunk lock. You'd be looking at approx. $600 used for this stuff. I've lost all my keys during a move and am working on a solution hopefully soon.

i had the same issue was able after time to get the red key from the seller .. u need that to program the new black key u can't just cut a blank and use it u have to program the new key after its cut .. your going to have to get a new system. try not to loose that og key .. it sucks but thats the way Yamaha does it. i think if u call around u might be able to find a shop that can help u with that cuz 1800 is crazy the guy told me the same thing i almost didn't buy the bike cuz of that but he found the key after a week of looking for it ... Good luck buddy
