My names Randy, from Brampton. I'm a 23 year old Male and I was talking with one of my co-workers about getting my license (I'm going this satuday) and he told me about this site... so here I am. :)

any suggestions on a good motorcycle (I'm leaning towards a sports bike) for a new rider, and also a decent insurance company to look into?

Thanks in advance,

Randy.

Welcome to the site and good luck with your test!

Hey man!

Check out these two threads:

Step by Step guide from getting your licence to buying your bike

New Rider, First bike: Which one??? (Guide to choosing your first ride)

Welcome and good luck on your test!
That second link is completely useless, not a single piece of advice on the types of bikes, advice on performance and what certain bikes can be used for, differences between sports, touring etc... Just a bunch of naging about why you should get a 250 or a bike alike

First link very useful.

Welcome!!

Thanks guys! Appreciate the links, there is a lot of good info in the first link. And as far as luck goes, I think I may need it for Saturday :)

Great group of people on here.

Was the first one in the mto office this morning (Saturday) at 8:30, and the first to leave with his M1! Signed up for the course @ the Hershey center & told my boss I was sorry I was 6 hours late for work... But things had to get taken care of! Haha

Thanks for the tips guys!

Btw, I'm originally from Mississauga Ontario, but I moved to Brampton 3-4 years ago.

I'll have a bike for the riding season! :)

And for anyone going to write their M1... The only other thing you should know that I didn't think of is knowledge of your G1... When you write your M1, there's 3 parts...

M1 - motorcycle knowledge
G1 - basic car knowledge
Road signs - self explanatory

If you say your taking the motorcycle training course... Your M1 is only $17.50.

Here's a course to help out with your M1:

Welcome! Check out State Farm for insurance, depending on your past driving record, they usually can dish out some pretty reasonable rates!

Appreciated, I shall do that, just waiting to get my M2 then I'm going to get my bike & insurance

SF doesn't care what license you have (M1, M2 or M) they just care for over 25 (Biggest discount), bringing a your cr insurance to them (2nd biggest discount), having G class license for 5 years (G1=1yr, G2=1yr, regardless how long you have had each), a clean record.
Depending on how good your job is you might not be able to afford a 600SS the first year, (Jevco or TD might be the cheapest after 1 year).
Might want to look into a Katana, Ninja 500 or anything classified sport touring

Welcome. Any time is a good time to join GTAM.
I joined months before i bought my bike or learned how to ride and found here a trove of information and entertainment.:)

WELCOME...........................Love ur Topic....(So New, I haven't even started yet).........clever..................Good Luck...:)

the ninja 500 is a lot more sport-touring like. The GSX-R, if its anything in the last 8-10 years it will have a much more aggressive riding position. Look at insurance before you go the GSX-R route. I assume you mean the 600, not saying you can't start on one, but generally new riders should start in the 250-500 range IMO. Supersports require finess to ride which comes with experience. For comparison, all supersports have roughly the same riding position, I can go about 3 hours (max) on my CBR1k, I could go all day on the ninja 500.

If your planning small jets around town, or going to the track, either will work, but if your doing long distance commuting/rides look at something more sport-tour ish.

Thanks :) appreciate the info :) prob gsxr :)

Question... Does anyone have their full G license and their M1 or know anyone that does?

I just got my 'm1' in the mail... But it has the exact same info as my G.
