So I joined a MLM company....

anyone else ever done one of these? MLM(multi level marketing company).

I got dupped in to one of their little meetings last winter... If you're at the top it's a great idea (and the product itself was cool, but practically everyone has skype now anyways)... I wasn't interested in giving away my own money to get in to a spot where I likely won't make any as it just goes uphill.

IMHO, MLM's are a sure fire way to waste your time, temporarily damage your ego, cause you to doubt your decision making abilities and damage or destroy friendships. Just my $0.02. Hope your scheme is different.

I once went to an Amway meeting that I was sandbagged into. The host had his sponsor there. The sponsor earned $12.00 in commissions in his first year. I just about punched the guy that invited me to this 'friendly get together' in the throat!

Out of curiosity, what MLM are you in?

You'll be working in a highly competitive environment and you'll have to bust your ***. However, at the end of the day, it's the higher ups who will benefit, not you. But it's not all that different than working any other job, you just lack steady work or volume.

About 20 years ago my buddy tricked me into an Amway meeting. The speaker bragged about his $200.00 shirt, $500.00 shoes, cadillac etc...
I asked how many people I would need below me to make $50,000.00 per year. He suggested 8,000 people. I laughed and went to Harry Rosen the next day to spruce up my wordrobe....

LMAO....

My son works for a kinda MLM and earns minimum $1500 a week. His average cheque is $2500, his best is $3100 so far. He's a team leader and he's always looking for hard working people to join him.

i'd rather be a lawyer/doctor than join a MLM, lol. people in MLM say you gotta do hardwork to be successful. no *****. but i rather do hardwork to learn an actual skill than do MLM

You all sound like a bunch of misinformed people who heard of someone who knew soeone who got soaked for their life savings in a "gold buying MLM,LOL

Every successful company on the planet is pyramidal in structure. The government is. Every corporation is. The military is......And every single day that Joe Average goes to work...guess what? His boss makes money off of his labours. That's right.

Difference is that most MLM's give you the opportunity to work it to your advantage by helping others accomplish what you have, and if you don't, well guess what? You won't have any success either.

People work all day every day making their bosses rich......If you were involved in any MLM, and gave it as much effort and heart that you give your boss every day, you would be a millionaire much sooner than doing what you are doing now. Almost every MLM out there can and will work. In fact, Amway, and it's business model have made more millionaires thatn any other single business in history-period.

The only way to make an ML work, though, is tons of hard work and committment. If you think you will get rich quick, you're dreaming. I have heard people complaining that the only way they can make it rich at this MLM or that MLM is to do it every night, all night, after work, every day for yrs.....My response is " you're right.....or you can keep doing what you're doing and expecting a different outcome, which is a surefire lesson in futility".

Just imagine Walmart or McDonalds went on a hiring spree and never stopped hiring employees? How long do you think they would be in business?

My advice, don't try to sell any products or memberships to your family and friends. They will feel pressured to say yes, and if they do say yes, they will blame you when they fail at MLM.

MLM's good if you're one of the first to join. Like omnivore said, any corporation is essentially a pyramid scheme...except they're smart enough to have a cap. To be successful in it, you have to have certain characteristics - but their information sessions make it seem like anyone can get there with hard work. Personally, I have the network to make some pretty decent coin off MLM, but I can't justify the leap that you have to take.

I'll admit that money can be made, but unless you're in the earlier groups who joined, I'd say it isn't worth it. You can put in just as much work and make more money in other ways...and in a lot of cases, that income will be a lot more steady, predictable, and efficient in terms of input/output.

The allure of MLM is that you grind it out, get to the top, and let other people do your work while you get a fraction of what they make. But again, there are better ways of grinding it out that don't involve you trying to get your family & friends into it. I also think that the allure for younger guys is that it looks all professional - guys get all serious wearing a suit/having their bluetooth on/ carrying around folders and making spreadsheets on excel.

Good luck & hopefully it's worth it for you...

I knew a guy who made money on MLM but lost all his friends. His world became MLM. When he got out his friends came back.
You don't have to sell, you can get your friends to do it etc etc etc. No one makes a cent until someone sells something.

I've been hooked in to two of them in my life.
One I broke even (if my time was worth zero), and the other I made a little money, but not more than if I had put in the same time at minimum wage somewhere.

I think the concept is perfectly acceptable and workable, provided you get in fairly early in the life of the product and/or company.

The main problem is that most of the motivational/educational seminars make it sound easy. They start throwing up numbers that are huge, and make is seem like anyone can sell that amount of product. They make it seem like your friends and family will thank you for giving them a great opportunity. All of this, of course, is pure bullcrap.

But if you find a product you believe in, and you have salesmanship skills - even better, if you have a large network of friends with these skills - you can certainly make money.

Does anyone else feel like this is just laying the ground work for a sales pitch on GTAM?

haha theres no sales pitch...not going to name the company. i did a lot of research on the company befor i bought in. i think omnivore got it right. most people think these are get rich quick scams and dont want to put in any effort to sell. then they call it a scam.

there is no such think as free money. or easy money for the most part. if you want to make a few extra bucks with some of these companies youre going to have to put in some effort. a quality product does however make it much.easier to sell.

the reason i brougjt this up was part of the reason i signed up. the tax write offs. running one of these businesses can provide you with a lot of write offs that will most likely save you more money than youinvested.

some of these companies are really worth looking into. just do a lot of research before you invest. and dont assume you are going to make 1000's a month. some maybe a few hundred a month.
