Smallest Lightest DOT

I had a pretty small one when I had my Harley.. Very similar to this design. Let's just say bumping my head on the ceiling wearing that would still hurt.

Crashing in it would be a death sentence... As long as you don't expect it to save your life.. Go for it.

When it comes to protecting my skull, Smallest doesn't ever cross my mind.
The lightest and smallest gear is none, Are you going that route as well?

You're not going to get any supporters here. I say it's your head, do as you wish.

You know when a pebble flies up and cracks your windshield? Now remove the windshield and install a cheek bone. For every accident where a helmet saves your life, there's 10,000 instances of something else that hits you in the face.

I thought halfy helmets were cool when i first started riding. I wore one for the first 4 or 5 months after getting my m2. But now i look back on that and feel very lucky to have done so and that i never got into an accident wearing it. Go full face, if you are ever in an accident it could save your life. A halfy won't. You might live, but without a face/chin. Even the smallest rock to the face on the highway will cause serious pain. Value your brain and keeping it safe more than style and how cool your lid looks.

You know how rock chips sometimes can crack your windshield. And how you get tons of bugs on your front bumper.

Ok now sub that for your face and enjoy

I had what i think was a bat (or small bird) smash off my visor, there's lots of crap i wouldn't want to be hit in the head with.

Oh yeah.. i forgot. Besides safety concerns. There's Bugs...

Here's what my helmet looked like after my last night ride...

my helmet has tiny chips in the paint from bugs, gravel, etc. and it looks like the one above after any ride. something hit my visor once that left a real bloody mess once too, could barely see through it. must have been a massive mosquito or something.

i hit something nasty on my sunday ride. visor up glasses on
i just felt a thick white goop seeping in around my glasses' frame
it smelled really bad too.
yuck
massive june bug maybe

Where are you doing your M2 OP? Some, if not all, institutes require a full face helmet to take the course. If you're doing it with MTO then I don't think it matters which helmet as long as it is DOT approved. I bought a cheap full face helmet, Streetz, which I now realize is too big, when I did the course. I will replace it with another full face helmet but of quality. I am looking at Bell, Shoei and Arai brands.

Just go full-faced. Your head is worth it.

Last summer a car in front of me kicked up a rock that was so big that when it hit the chinbar of my helmet, it snapped my head back. It even took a chunk out of my helmet! If I had been wearing one of those brain bucket helmets, it would have knocked out a tooth, split my lip, etc.

If you want light, get a Shark in carbon fiber. Pricey, but very light.
