SLEEPING GSX-R 600 RISING FROM THE DEAD (Starting Problems)

Hi All,

My friend has not turned on her 2009 GSX-R 600 in 2 years due to expired M2 and other issues. Tomorrow I will be doing an oil change and draining out all the fuel because she doesn't remember if she put fuel stabilizer in it or not, besides 2yrs is probably too long anyways for the stabilizer to help? No battery on a trickle charger either.

I highly doubt this will be a quick oil change, new gas and a jump good to go deal. I have a feeling I'll be running into more problems.. so my main concern is what the fuel has possibly done to this bike sitting for 2 years and how to jump a gixxer?

- Can I jump the gixxer once by attaching to a car battery (bad I know) but not turning the car on, just pulling the juice from the battery? I've done it to my sv650s almost every year, no problem. Does a gixxer need any special treatment?

- What do I need to take out and clean if the new fuel doesn't get the bike running? I know when fuel sits for a long time it gunks up into that black **** that gets stuck in carbs (which I've cleaned out of a 250r before and fixed it). But with a fuel injected '09 gixxer... what will I be looking at to "clean"?

To those still reading thank you!! Sorry very long but I've only ever worked on my sv650s and kawi 250r not a gixxer, any info will help!!! :D

Thanks!!!!!!

Why are you so worried even before you tried to start an almost new bike?? It's a fuel injected bike. Why not just try to start it?? The gas is there anyway, and no, gas won't do much harm if you're going to drain it afterwards anyway. If you're going to start the bike using car battery, just make sure the car is not running when you're doing that. Change oil, check condition of the rubber (tires, gaskets, etc.), tighten the bolts, change fuel if you really have to, and go for a ride! If the battery is dead, you'll probably have to change it.

I'd change the fuel but my thinking is it will fire right up with no issues! Gixxers are pretty reliable!

OP Why do you doubt this will NOT be a quick oil change, new gas and a jump good to go deal???? unless the bike has been stored OUTSIDE in the Snow/rain for the last 2 years and was not Winterized at the time she stored it.... It should be a basic drain oil/gas fire it up kinda job, maybe a new batt that should be it.... its not like you pulled it out of the lake after 2 years....

Yeah I am with everyone else. It's a pretty new bike so it should start fairly easily. For jumping I usually use my trusty portable booster pack. Works good, never had an issue(I had some charging issues at the track one year and had to use it each session for the better part of the day, bit of a hassle but got me through the day without having to push start it each time). If there is not much gas in it, I would maybe top it up with some high test, or siphon out the old and dump in some new stuff. Do you get to keep the bike if you get it running? lol.

I'm in for results :)

If she stored it with Sunoco 94 in it, could be bad bad news.
