Show this weekend, which ride??

Hey all,

Spring has (almost) sprung and I'm thinking about getting onto a new bike this year. I figured the show this weekend would be as good a time as any to pick one up. Currently I'm riding a 1982 Yamaha XS400, which I have been on the past 2 years.

I'm looking at a mid-sized cruiser, in the 800-900 cc range - something bigger than my current bike, but not too big to handle being only my second bike.

Although I do love the thought of a Harley, the 883 is just too small for me (6'2", 195 lbs). I would love a Superglide, but the size (not to mention price) is a little beyond me at this point.

I'm currently debating between the Triumph America and the Kawasaki Vulcan 900. Does anyone have experience with both of these bikes? If not both, any opinions on these? Mostly what I do is ride to work and back (about 20km each way) as well as evening and weekend trips north of the city.

I'll be 27 this year, if that makes a difference at all in terms of insurance or anything like that. Most guys my age are on a sport bike, and make fun of me for loving the cruisers (you like what you like) so no one I know is really much help in choosing a new ride.

Any insight into the pros/cons of either bike would be very much appreciated. I've researched the specs to death, so I'm more-so looking at personal opinions/feelings etc.

Thanks!

I have 2 friends with Vulcan 900's (2007) and they both love them. My father just bought a 2011 Vulcan 900 new last summer and he rode from Newfoundland to Toronto the next week, spent 6 weeks here riding with me and then back again. I think he put on 12,000 km in 3 1/2 months and would buy the bike again in a heartbeat. I was also impressed with the bike. An old friend of mine who has had 7-8 bikes had a Vulcan 900 and put over 200,000km on it and swears it was one of the best bikes he has ever owned.

They're nice bikes.

In the end it is what ever is going to make you happy that you can afford. As long as you are riding it will be great.

Awesome - thanks for the replies guys!

I'll take a closer look at both at the show (GP is going to be there, so there should be a Triumph or two) to see which one jumps out as more 'me'.

Thanks for the help,

No experience with this bike, but it looks pretty good in my opinion, from a visual stand point anyways. Its a new model.
