Shoei RF1100--where to buy tomorrow morning?

So I gingerly placed my almost brand new (bought it one month ago) Shoei Rf1100 on my bike seat and pull in the clutch lever as I start the bike. Now, I always leave my bike in neutral but I pull-in the lever just-in-case. Well, I let the lever out a bit too fast (it seems I either didn't leave it in neutral or someone came along and decided to pop it into gear while it was parked all day). Long story short, my helmet get's launched in the air up and forward, comes crashing down to the road, and rolls and tumbles down the street. I go after it, pick it up, and find chunks of the outer shell missing all over. #$%$#%$#$#$#@$$*^. ahem ahem.

It's my own damn fault. It seems I am not responsible enough to have nice things *sigh.* I am leaving Friday morning on a long trip so I need to get a new helmet soon and would like to get one tomorrow morning and, hopefully, at a decent price. I see them selling for just under 400 bucks online but as all the web-sites have 1-2 day processing times, even with overnight shipping, I can't be sure I will have it in time.

Where can I go tomorrow morning to get a bright orange medium Shoei RF1100 at a decent price?

:lmao: Dude that sucks. But look on the bright side - you're going to be really careful with the next one!

Try Kahuna or GP Bikes. I htink they have some one for a decent price.

GP Bikes-Ajax ; Kahuna-North York; Riders Choice-Mississauga

I bought mine at Riders Choice, they should have lots of em.

Thanks for the replies guys! But 500 bucks? yikes! I paid $450 for mine in July and they are selling online for $396.

GP has them on for 399 for any in stock. At least they did last time I was there.

Clear out for 2012 models I suppose.

This deal ended, its like 470 or so the most recent weekend.

Does your bike not have a switch that disables the starter when the kickstand is down and the bike is in gear??

Ahh man, that sucks... If I ever set my lid on the seat to start the bike, I see it jiggling and ready to drop... Better leave it on the ground/mirror/arm through the bottom, out the front from here on out or it's just going to happen again. That sucks massively with expensive helmets. If you don't mind the ding on the outside, the structural integrity should be okay, however! If you have already bought a new one, it will make a good spare at least.

A video was circulating a while back, straight from Arai. I searched for a bit, but can't find it... anyway, long story short is that if there is nothing in the helmet (like a head) when you drop it from low height, the protective materials inside are not compressed/broken and is still safe to use. Maybe you can find it if you are skeptical.

I just couldn't bring myself to spend 500 bucks for a new helmet when I just bought this one a month ago. I hope the helmet is still good. I'm taking off boy my bike trip in the morning--my first long-distance trip! Heading down to Virginia.

It's on Leno's garage.

I doubt this applies in his case. Read the original post - his helmet's outer shell was missing chunks, so I am sure the inner stuff was damaged too. He didn't just "drop it".

to stay on topic, forum member (Toastman) runs Platinum Powersports. Last time I checked he had really cheap RF1100s, so you may consider talking to him.

the video also goes into explaining that its only okay to use the helmet after a drop if the outershell has survived the impact as well.

if hes missing chucks out of the outer shell, its definitively NOT going to work the way its supposed to.

It might also depend on whether the chunks are protection or decoration, but it'd be best to get the manufacturer to check if for sure.

I'd be a little wary of helmets that break into chunks from an impact at a low height with no weight in them.
