shift holder

My 600rr's shifter sometimes doesnt shift...the connector between the shift rod and the engine can sometimes wiggle in and out. If it's in, then the shifter is unresponsive. I've been told I need something called a "shift holder". Does anyone know where I can get one locally or shipped to Toronto?

I actually don't really know what the part is called....i know gilles sells it as a "shift holder", but i dont know what the honda oem equivalent is called, so it makes the part difficult to order from a dealer.

Gilles sells it for a wopping $90.

picture? some parts for aftermarket rear sets are OEM parts.

What you need is the "tab" that holds the shifter shaft in the correct position (on my bike its a circlip, but it might be a tab on yours). Its under the clutch cover, according to that thread. I cant find it on that parts fiche, but what you are looking for is going to most likely be on one of the crank case diagrams. I dont know enough about what your engine looks like inside to identify it.

*edit* http://www.ronayers.com/Fiche/TypeI...CBR600RR/GroupID/381849/Group/GEARSHIFT_DRUM_

I am 99% sure it is number 11 in the part list, unlabeled on the diagram, but held in by the #22 bolt (right side of the picture, little metal plate).

I would still replace the tab, or at least find out what it looks like now and make sure its not rubbing against anything. The spacer is a bit of a ghetto fix but if you are in a rush and need the bike back on the road asap, the spacer will do that just fine. I used a spacer on my bike when something similar happened, but on my bike it was a circlip and I knew exactly where it was (in 2 pieces in the trash :) ). I eventually replaced it as well, but rode the bike just fine for a few weeks with the spacer, it wont cause any issues.

huge thanks,

i'm now looking at an alternative solution though, http://www.600rr.net/vb/showthread.php?t=148696
I would just use a pile of washers on it. If you can get the shift knuckle on without the rod pushing in then just load it up with a ton of washers behind it (or cut a piece of pipe like the guy in the thread) and you're set. No need for a set screw or anything like the guy in the thread, the shift knuckle will prevent the shaft from going in (because it'll be held out by the washers/pipe), I wouldn't recommend using zip ties like that other guy, but they did hold up for years and worked so well he forgot about the problem entirely when he sold the bike!!
