So ****** off right now at Shell and their moron employees.
I was at the Kingston & Sheppard Shell station, filling up my (nearly empty) tank, and at less than $5 the pump cuts off, no warning. Buddy inside comes over PA saying, "Please sir get off the bike while filling." I tell the guy, I'm already filling the tank, my kickstand is down and I've already preauth'd my card, what's the problem? "Please sir you must get off the bike for safety reasons." I'm too close to the pump to safely do so -- I tell the guy this, he tells me to just leave the pump in my OPEN GAS TANK, and I can get off & move the bike. For safety reasons.
Do these ****ing people have any shred of common sense in them?
I tell the guy how stupid of an idea that is, he again repeats, "Please sir for safety..." I tell him I'm not getting off the bike while I have an open tank with a pump sticking out of it, he refuses to let me continue filling up -- so I put the pump back on the machine to close my tank to move the bike. Of course this ends my transaction and I can't continue filling up after. I spend the next 20 minutes giving the ****tard **** at his service window, explaining to him how stupid of a "policy" this is, demanding he either let me continue filling up or give me his head office number. He does the latter, I call it, and it's the wrong number. Shell's employee help line, who redirect me to the ACTUAL customer service line, which simply gives me a "sorry for the inconvenience, our system is currently down" and hangs up.
All of this because Captain Clueless behind his glass shroud of stupidity somehow believes he's trying to do the safe thing, and as a result I end up leaving and giving my business to a competitor. In 3 years I have NEVER had to get off my bike to fill up. I know it's not the first time it's been asked, and I DO understand why in some cases they're right, but I don't understand where some of these people get their logic from. The guy didn't seem to get how it was actually more dangerous for me to risk dumping gas all over the place if my bike/the pump fell over while I try to juggle everything, where he could have simply left me alone for the 30-60 seconds it would have taken me to fill up... ugh.
/rant.
