SHAD or GIVI Luggage?

Hey all,

So I bought the bike and am trying to find the best way to set it up for extended riding. I personally like the look of the 3 bag system (side + tail) and as the bike came with the Shad luggage, and no rear tail frame for mounting a third bag, I'm trying to decide...

Remove the SHAD side luggage (which is a larger size than the E21s I have from Givi) and purchase the 3 bag frame for the Givis as I have the E21 and a tail bag that will fit a helmet. For some reason it might be sentimental for me to keep the Givis as they've done a lot of miles with me on every bike I've had (except the Rebel as I couldn't find a mounting).

OR

Sell or the Givi luggage and buy a frame for the tail bag of the SHAD case and a SHAD tail bag case...but just trying to figure out if I actually can do so or not. Not that familiar with the SHAD system so looking for advice.

#firstworldproblems I know

The main selling point of the 3 bag system is obviously that the helmet will fit into that bag, and can be used as a backrest should my wife want to go for a ride again at some point.

Sell all the bags, sell the CB500X, sell the Volt and buy my XR. You may have to sell the wife too...

What have I done to you for you to want me to get divorced and kicked out of the house?
Is it because you haven’t tried the limoncello?

Fine I said it....I need the luggage space to run my home brew....

you can thank me later.

When I had the CBX, I found too much weight flung far back, and up high (aka big top box, changes the bikes character). I got it with an SW Motech rack, that had no plate. So went to Henry's, got a Nanuk case, and bolted it on. You can get them in a few sizes, made in Canada, and this box has seen a lowside, and many off roads falls, still like new. I put all my camera gear in there with some foam, and on long trips, other things,

Add a duffle for extra space for longer days if needed? Then just keep the current side bags. Not sure your requirements, or places to go, if much off road with the lugagge or not.

A user on ADVRider asked me to take these pics before I sold the bike to see how the Enduristan stuff fit. Also shows the rear topcase.

I found this with my old GS as well. I had 52L Givi Maxia. It was WAAAAAAY too big, because it became too tempting to stuff heavy items up high and well behind the rear axle. Like you said, it levers the front wheel up and changes the bike's handling big time.

Right now, I have a smaller topcase on order (38L), but even so, I'm only going to use it for multi-day trips. Got a Kriega 5L soft tail-pack for tools and spares that I'll lash down on the rear seat for normal day-rides. Nice and compact, and most importantly: light.

How did you mount the case to the rack @ScorpionT16 ? That's not a standard moto case or anything like that...

My primary want for the rear tail bag is to throw the helmet in there when off the bike.

Alright this thread is getting too expensive! LOL

Why are you selling that beautiful sexy beast @Evoex You barely broke it in.

My mistake, it was Givi rack the bike came with, and no plate, this one

I drilled 4 holes in the Nanuk case, to match the 4 holes on the rack rails, and simply bolted it right on.

Went back into the archives to find these...

The inside foam comes out, and it's a decent amount of space. They have a few bigger sizes too.

The ape with a topbox on got shady at high speed. Like you were on an expanded metal bridge. No issues at all at legal speeds.

I’ve got a Givi hard box on the versys 1000 that’s loaded and have no problems with vibration or any other movements

Not for sale quite yet, but i've been thinking about it for a few days. I think i'm over the speed part of riding, i just want to chill out, blast some tunes and enjoy puttering around. Let's be honest the XR is SPORT Touring.

I'll likely end up on a bagger because i still want to tour.

Looks good. Maybe I can figure something out to mount the Givi in between the 2 side racks.
If they don’t use the same bolting patterns could be a simple solution.
