Severly Damaged Vehicle ?

I wouldn't touch it. May be a problem registering such a thing in Ontario, since the MoT doesn't recognize anything other than a clear title, and "rebuilt" ain't clear.

No. Too many horror stories about branded bikes from QC being brought here and turned into track bikes because they cant be registered.

With cages, it is possible to take a car that is "salvage" and bring it back to being road legal. We did this a couple times when I was working in a body shop. The process involved an inspector coming in at certain stages of the repair, documenting and taking pictures.
One of the cars was some late 90s Grand Prix GTP, the owners must have been well off because the car wasn't worth that the repair cost, and they brought in a 40 of Rye for each of us in the shop when the job was done!

However, the fact it's coming from QC makes me say NO. There are more than a few incidents of wrecked vehicles coming from that place. In the snowmobile population it's well known about people selling sleds that aren't advertised for what they really are. Like rental sleds with 20,000 km (that's really high mileage on an original motor) with odometers from wrecked low mileage sleds in them.
One buddy bought one with supposed 3000km on it, never had any issues and there was JB weld found on the bottom of the crank case that was noticed after the sled blew up in the first 50km he rode it.

That is really unfortunate, however in that case the seller is advertising it so there's no surprise there. One of my friend once bought an svd car in Quebec for dirt cheap and repaired it himself, was definitely worth it but it's different here as I have no idea what the damages were. I also think it's overpriced considering the risk factor but at a lower price I would have been tempted.

But if you guy say no, I'll take your word on it.

Run away, not only is the ad questionable "Rare Bike" a 2012 Street Triple R is not a rare bike. Plenty of used ones that have not been crashed and rebuilt.

A couple of things. Whatever money you save by buying a rebuilt built, will be equally (if not more) taken off the regular market price when you try to sell it. No one wants to buy a rebuilt bike, if you buy it, and decide to sell it down the road, good luck!

Do you know the extent of the original damage? If you have no before pictures, definitely stay away.

You have no clue how well it was repaired. Don't know how many bikes I've seen pieced together. Would suck to drive to Quebec and find that the bike is a POS.

I requested a picture of after the crash (before the repairs), so I'll see.

It's true that I don't know how well it was repaired but it was inspected by the Quebec ministry. I'll check if the certification provides any kind of guarantee in terms of quality or if it is just from a security perspective.

He told me that the gear pedal, the brake pedal, left mirror and front brake reservoir were replaced. He is also willing to sell it certified in Ontario.

Him selling it certified doesn't guarantee that you will be able to transfer the ownership if the VIN has a "rebuilt" tied to it ... Ontario is not Quebec ... ! ! !

Also fishy that that little damage would have resulted in a branded title. For the love of god, run away.

Re: Severely Damaged Vehicle ?

Can't get plates for a "branded" bike in Ontario. Periode. If you want it purely as a track bike, that's all it would be. I would look elsewhere.

Alright I won't buy it. Thank you everyone for your answers.

Oh and when I asked for the pictures and more details he told me that he bought the bike already rebuilt so he doesn't know what happened or does not have any pictures, which seems odd to me.

Sounds like he might have bought it assuming he could put it on the road, ran in to issues at the MTO with getting it road ready and wasn't able to. So now, he's trying to pawn it off on to someone else. You can go in and get a bike safety checked but that means squat as previously stated.
