So I'm trying to by my son a new bike since I turned his in to the cops (turned out it was stolen property). I went to look at a 2003 KX65 last night. I went to Service Ontario to get a UVIP because the kid doesn't have an ownership. Service Ontario said that the VIN comes up invalid. I triple checked and it's the right VIN that's on the bike.

My question is does anyone know what it means if they the VIN comes up invalid? I'm wondering if that just means it was never transferred out of the original dealers name. I ran it in CPIC and no records are found, so I don't think it's stolen at least.

If it was never registered with the MTO for a green plate then they won't have a record of it. My son's 50cc is the same way where the CRF I just bought was previously green plated so the MTO has a record of it.

You can probably register it legit.

As long as you can verify it's not stolen, and you may need a letter from a Kawasaki dealer showing that you are in possession of the bike. This means physically showing up at a dealer with it and they may charge you a fee for the letter.

I've done this before (But a long time ago) with an improperly registered vehicle.

How did the stolen bike thing work out? Are you SOL for the money you paid for it or did you somehow recoup?

my buddy bought a stolden atv,(he didnt know) the cops came and took it away,he got nothing I assume thats what happens in cases like this.

I got nothing. The region it was stolen out of wanted it to do an investigation. The cop told me that if the region didn't want it for an investigation, that they will contact the owner. The owner can then decide what they want to do.

Did this for my KX250F that was never registered. New have ownership.

Assuming the VIN is the correct one off the frame then perhaps not registered as above? Original owner never took NIVIS form to MTO. Also sometimes if going off the MTO ownership the older non barcode NIVIS was manually entered wrong and the ownership won't match the frame VIN. Not sure when all forms went to barcode to prevent mistakes.
