Scam?

Hey guys. I am selling my motorcycle and posted it in several places. I have posted it on Kijiji, AutoTrader, and this forum.

I have gotten a lot of interest and the scam e-mails that usually occur. Just a few minutes ago I got a call from some guy claiming to work for AAG Financial. Now I know of the scams that go on, but have never heard of actual calls taking place. The guy on the phone sounded very business like and professional. He offered the bike can be sold for the asking price or even a bit more, but there is a fee for using their service. Now this is when I became skeptical when he stated that there is a fee for using the service. I tried to look for any info on this scam, but couldn't find anything on google.

Has anyone ever come across this? Also, the number appears to be from NV, USA.

definitely a scam... just sell it locally, it will probably take you all of a week this time of year.

Hopefully I can sell it within a week. I find a lot of people don't care for what has been done to the bike and what's on it now. I got one guy come to see the bike yesterday and he right away offered me 2K less than what I was asking.

...right away offered me 2K less than what I was asking.

It's the Kijijji flea market effect. We've sold some stuff on kijiji in the past, my wife gets emails If its for sale for $200.00 they offer $50.00. If I would take $50.00 I would have priced closer to it. If you don't think it is worth near what I am asking, don't waste your or my time.

everybody is a lowballer, not everyone is desperate to sell everything

That's a nice bike you're selling (found your ad on here).
Honestly no one does anything for free, so don't let someone else sell your bike.
If you're patient enough, the right person will come along. Just sell it yourself and any emails that come in with a silly offer, just delete and block them.

I had a stereo on kijiji that I was selling for 280$ (would of accepted 225-240$) and I kept getting emails just asking for the subs, or just the deck, or just the box, etc...ignored them all.
Got more emails offering 150$, or heck, as low as 80$. Deleted and blocked.
Then I get an email from kijiji warning me that my ad will expire in a couple days, and then the next day I had someone all frantic asking if it was still available.

I said yes and he asked when he could come check out the stereo components.
Before giving him my address I asked him to confirm that my asking price is 280$, he said yeah no problem.
He came, he saw, he bought. Didn't even try to negotiate me down a little.

The buyer for your bike is out there, you just need to wait until he/she messages you and until then you have to deal with the hoarde of idiot kijiji'ers who think they can steal your stuff by giving you ridiculous offers.

Thanks for the vote of confidence. It's become ridiculous now with the amount of scams, haggling before they even see the product or sheer amount of people trying to say I'll give you 3.5K "CASH." LOL, wtf does that even mean, were they planning on paying me with pretend money?

you never get back what you put into cars/bikes.

having said that......
being able to see items for sale online, makes it very easy for to offer ridiculous $$$$.
After all, what do they have to loose?

It is super frustrating for the seller.
Mainly because you think that everyone is a potential sale, only to find out that they are only interested if they can pay less $$$

its a scam.
sell it locally.
dont use any third party, especially one that will try to charge you money.
let me guess, you had to pay him up front too? lol
damn scammer. they are tricky tricky.

+1 Jeero.

There is just a trade off of how long u are willing to wait and how negotiable u are on price. If u wait long enough, u will get exactly wat u want.

A word of advice/tip for anyone selling on kijiji: Don't use your main email address as the reponse for the ads. The amount of emails you get in a day will flood your inbox and become even more annoying because you'll always be deleting stuff. And then it will get all mixed in there with emails from mom whatnot. It's even more annoying when you have a smartphone and it goes off all day long with emails from kijiji with ridiculous offers. This just ruins your day, all day long. I always use a secondary email for sites like kijiji and similar, and just check it every couple of days.

The benefit of having my own domain is that I can make unlimited email addresses and then get rid of them when I am done. :D
My main email is reserved for friends and family, important stuff and bills.

I have not heard of that one for years. I thought it went the way of the dinosaur. When Craigslist first started, if you posted a car for sale you would get that call from a company that specialized in selling cars online. Since online was relatively new, it was the perfect scam. I did not get approached on the last few vehicles I had sold (over the last 10 years or so), and just assumed they had finally run their course.

That has SCAM written all over it. Wait, deal with lowballers and be patient, you'll find someone for sure.

Selling privately on classified ads is a privilege that comes with lowballers. Look at it from a buyers perspective, there is no harm in offering a lowball. The worst thing is a NO, and you'll be at the same spot. When buying, I recommend lowballing....to see where the buyer stands, to see if he/she is in a rush to sell or to see if the price is at least negotiable. So when selling, price it closer to what you'll take for it, or just price it for exactly what you want and say no to the lowballers. Responding to a lowball email with a NO is not really a waste of time, if anything, don't respond to it if you really feel like 10seconds is too much.

Good luck to you.

I don't have experience with motorcycles, but I've used kijiji, and craigslist extensively for the past few years. This is a scam, period, tell the guy to **** off, or try to scam him back (it's fun, it's like chess!).

Just be patient with selling things, people always try to undercut (like stupidly low). If you get a serious buyer, they might haggle a little bit, but they won't go to something like 25% of the original price unless you REALLY screwed up on your pricing (which judging from the posts you did not). Just wait it off, I'm sure someone will buy it.

I got the same offer when I put my GS500 up in April. Sounds like the same guy. He told me he already had a customer lined up and "very interested" in my "car" -- so interested they didn't care that it was a bike, apparently. He even called up about week later sounding annoyed that I didn't return his first voice mail.

:laughing8:

Cash as opposed to a money order or bank draft? I used a MO in part to buy my bike. I could only withdraw $3800 from my account in cash without a special order that would take a couple of days to process. The purchaser was a little hesitant so I had him call up the branch and confirm with the teller who had issued it that it was legit. The branch manager mentioned that dealers usually do this but via FAX.

these offers are legit. they are not scams. its basically a financing company. they get a bunch of vehicles into their "market" they confirm the quality/condition of said vehicles. and then when people are looking for financing, they offer them financing and give them a list of vehicles they can choose from. so right now they probably have someone looking for the kind of bike you have, and dont have one listed in their inventory, and its in their interest to get one, because then they can rake interest off of the guy that is going to be financing the bike with them.

that being said, i've always shunted these guys off when they call. they say they'll pay by cheque and they probably will, but i dont trust it. i tell them that if they come and pay full in cash i'll let them do whatever the hell they want with the bike, but i will not pay a $500 fee, nor will i wait to have a cheque mailed. that being said, they are legit companies... at least the ones that called me... but i still prefer to deal in person and have a physical on-the-spot money exchange, whether it be bank draft or cash. none of this we pay in installments.

Interesting. I thought it might be legit, but figured I could sell it right away just by knocking down the price sufficiently. No need for the middle man and added risk. Is that $500 a flat fee or is proportional? Might be worthwhile at that price if I were getting rid of a higher end bike.

the guys that called me said $500 fee, although i am not too sure of the details. if it is a higher end bike and you're looking for a quick sale, and although there are companies that legitimately do this i was still wary, like others.
