Scalping provincial park site reservations

I wouldn’t have a problem with Parks Canada cancelling any of the reservations on that site. Drop them an email...pretty sure they would have universal backing to stop that crap.
If the reservation was a contract solely between the park and the camper the camper would be screwed if Mr. Jones showed up and the site was reserved for Mr. Smith. Mr. Jones would be shut out. The louder he screamed the more it would show people that skirting the system isn't a good idea.

Didn't they pass some anti scalper legislation. Two minutes after event was released the tickets were all gone.

Long gone are the days when you could drive up for a Friday afternoon and pick out a prime location.

I may try a drop in this summer and see how it goes. Managed it before when the weather was iffy and a bunch of people were no shows. If I snag one I may post here to see if anyone is interested as you can put several tents on one site.

Walmart parking lot I guess for the family vacation this summer

If I keep the camp fire down to 3 logs or less it shouldn't hurt the pavement too much right?

Ontario Parks better get to the bottom of this and F'n fix it. It was hard to get a site to begin last year, but many campgrounds literally booked completely out for the entire summer within minutes/hours of this years booking season opening thanks to these bots.

I know there's a lot of people being ******** and just booking huge swaths of time when they plan to eventually cancel much of it (courtesy of lax cancellation policies because of Covid) which is bad enough, but bots now scooping up slots only to resell online. It seems since the story broke far and wide all the ads on Kijiji and FB marketplace have been yanked down (surely to prevent Ontario Parks from tracing them) but I'm sure they'll slink back in. Parks better be watching - given as how parks won't be opening now until at least probably mid may now (our first weekend in May reservation was cancelled on us 2 nights ago...) they have the time.

It's going to be another year of "first come first served" gambles I can see. Played that card many times in years past and it works although it sucks having to get to the gatehouse at 6-7am to get in line on a Saturday morning. We'd usually head out the night before and boondock somewhere (occasionally right in the gatehouse parking lot itself) and get up early to start he process. Ended up with a site 99% of the time as most provincial parks do hold back some first come first served.

Not sure exactly what the mechanics of my idea would be but...maybe this can catch on since things are going to be a bit sparse this year in the camping front. Here goes...

I think you can put three tents up on one pitch in Ontario parks. So, if I manage to get a spot and am able to post in time you can pm me for the site info and split the cost equally. Rules (for me since this is a bike forum)...ride in on a bike, no cars, no kids. There’s been plenty of space for multiple tents when I’ve been before but maybe not something like a big top.

I don’t know what the rules are with multiple bikes on one site pitch or any of the other details but I wouldn’t have an issue sharing a site for a few nights.

If this is doable and popular maybe a separate thread would work.

No idea when I’d be going personally but it’s usually a last minute decision.

They typically only allow one "vehicle" parked on the site, others must be at one of the parking lots inside the campground. Sometimes close, sometimes not so much.

Sounds like a great offer...all you'd need to do is add the additional campers names onto your reservation. There is a charge for the extra vehicle permit just FYI.

They discontinued all the first come sites last year to discourage people from just showing up good luck. I don't think that is going to work this year

Urgh. Hoping they undid that this year.

I've booked a few spots near where we have cottages.

Sometimes I stay there (kids, oldies, preggers need the cottage), sometimes I am just holding them for our friends/family.

Not scalping them but I've planned my year by the time suites open up

Too slow mofo, sorry (not). It's my escape/back up plan.
