Safety Wiring Fluid Caps/Plugs for Track Day at Shannonville

I was just wondering if it's necessary to safety wire the oil drain plug and reservoir caps in order to ride a track day at Shannonville.

I seem to be encountering conflicting information. Shannonville's list of track day rules say they must be safety wired, but various sources providing track day prep information don't mention it as a necessity. I'm curious because I will be using my street bike and would like to avoid drilling holes in various plugs/caps present on an EX500 if I can.

Can anyone confirm that a bike that is not safety wired will fail the technical inspection for motorcycle lapping days at Shannonville?

Thanks.

I never had a problem but I'd suggest calling the organizer and asking.

I've called twice now. I spoke with someone unable to answer the question both times. It seems the guy who actually performs the tech inspections only shows up on the day of the track day and they wouldn't give me his number. I've left my name and number with two different people but have yet to hear back.

Then I wouldn't worry about it but put a dab of whiteout or use a paint marker to show it's been checked and not loose.

Typically for track days your bike does not need to be wired.

The lapping day rules from that link - it says "should be"...I'd read that as optional.

However you do have to switch out coolant

Yeah, I've drained the coolant and replaced it with water and water wetter. I'd just hate to drive all the way out to Shannonville only to be told I couldn't ride because I didn't safety wire the necessary bolts.

So then just drill them. It's 3 holes. Rad cap oil fill cap and oil drain plug.

Use wire on the plug and spring clips on the caps.

My opinion-you prob will do another track day. A lot of organizers like to see this so just get er done now. Plus you don't wanna be "that guy" who shuts the track down for hours while they clean up oil because your drain bolt came undone. Not to mention how bad an oily rear tire is

Just thinking on the safety side of things, and remembering a couple of bolts that came off my bike due the vibration of riding that hard, I would just safety wire them anyways.

I used to use silicone when I ran my street bike (Turn2 requirement if I remeber correctly). Easy on, easy off and added security.

If it's a day run by Shannonville themselves I wouldn't worry about it. None of my ish is safety wired and they didn't say anything about it, mind you they didn't even do tech that day :(

Yeah, my first time at Shanny last year and no tech..was interesting seeing the wtf look on everyone's face. Not sure if its the norm but it was bedlam the whole time I was there (lucky/unlucky for me mechanical problems kept it to a 1/2 day). First red lap ended up with ambulance and track closed till lunch, after that it was crash after crash, groups mixed up.
Don't do it cause you won't get checked is funny but please don't listen to that. The riders in the know are laughing because its so stupid.
GSXR lost an oil filter on the back straight away at the DOCC at GB last year. Needless to say there were not a lot of happy faces for something so simple.
If you can't wire it at least silicone it. If something is out of order at tech, there will be lots of people that can help you out.

Now that's great advice.

Even if there is no tech ask someone to be a second set of eyes.
