Safety required when transferring bikes between family members?

If I am transferring ownership of a bike that is registered to me and moving it over to my brother, does it still need to have a safety done to be used on the road?

The bike is fine, but the rear tire is close to the wear bars. I think it would not pass a safety because of this, but in reality the tire is fine for him to ride for about another 1000-2000km.

Anyone in the know?

I believe so. When we took our parents car MTO wanted the safety done.

Yes spousal transfer is the only time no safety is needed.

If the bike is currently "FIT", you can transfer it to your brother and get a 15 day temp sticker for a few bucks. This gives him the ability to run the bike around under his name and insurance while he arranges a safety and necessary repairs.

Did you have to pay tax on the transfer? I know with spouse you don't have to...

Should be no tax if you out it as a gift.
