Motocross Icon Marty Smith Killed in Dune Buggy Accident

Marty Smith, the motocross legend, has died at the age of 63. Smith died on April 27 in a dune buggy accident alongside his wife, Nancy.

Know the name as a legend in the sport but he’s from before my time so I don’t know much about him. Sad deal. Would be tough on his friends that he was there with that tried to save him.
 
even sadder that it probably didnt need to happen, no seatbelt in an offroad dune buggy?

when I had the place in Arizona we would run these things all the time, you can plate them (almost anything can be plated in AZ) for the road and get from area to area, next to a seat belt , wrist tethers are most important so your arm doesnt fly out when you tip it. Not if you tip it, when you tip it. I always wore a helmet because those roll cages? yeah thats steel.
 
Dangerous vehicle to not at least be wearing an open face helmet ⛑ don't anybody do that, life is too short as is.
