runs better with full tank.

Hey guys.

I'm wondering if anybody else has some insight into this. I've always felt that she runs a bit better on a full tank but didn't really care because the difference was almost imperceptible and after all it's a carbed bike so it's a bit moody. Today though the difference was there big time. My usual idle is 1250 (fully warmed up) - and it's been there for the past month. this morning after a fill up it got to 1350. and the bike was running smoother.

Any thoughts? I'm hoping to take it apart this weekend and make sure everything's ok, but if someone has any insight it would be appreciated. I have transparent fuel filter on the line and it looks clean (as it always did). The bike is a 2001 SV650 - no fuel pump / vacuum petcock. I checked the petcock and the floats last year when it seemed that my oil has been thinned out by sipping gas. Couldn't find anything wrong, changed the oil and it's been running fine since.

Thanks.

The fuel filter can look clean and still be clogged or damaged. Make sure all your hoses are in good condition and have routed without any pinching and change that fuel filter if you all else fails. Check for rust debris in the tank. And try some seafoam through in the next tank a gas to removed some of build up from carbs.

I did put some seafoam (actually the bottle says STP but it's identical to the seafoam bottle so I figured it's a rebrand) in the tank this year, as I do every year. I'm thinking that the hoses must be as old as the bike and it may be wise to change them all...

I have a 2000 sv650 and the bike runs like poop when its low on fuel. I can tell I'm about to hit reserve when it starts to stutter and backfire.

Also check your vents for your tank, make sure they are working properly. Could be getting vapor lock as the tank empties. I have heard Vortex gas caps sometimes have issues venting properly.
