Running too lean?

I believe my bike is too lean right now. When stock it backfired like crazy and at 500 miles i just put an fmf q4 and k&n filter on so i think its pretty lean cause the new pipe backfires like crazy. Im just wondering what damage could happen?

what kind of bike is it? I understand some Suzuki's do this with aftermarket pipes, maybe others?. Do some searches on the marble mod

It's carbbed right?

Rejet it; the KN filter allows for greater air flow. Most carbbed bikes come lean from the factory for emission purposes. I believe you may have made it more lean.

Adding a k/n and exhaust will definitely flow more air and run lean. If you run it too lean it can burn your valves, cause overheating issues etc. Invest in a JD jet kit (or similar) under $100 with tax. Properly jetted, with k/n and exhaust, it should wake up the throttle response nicely.

Will i cause any damage running it for 2 days before rejetting

Not likely, tbh, it'd have to be extremely lean and you riding it extremely hard. I meant more long term use. Enjoy it, get it jetted soon, you'll be happy you did. The JD kit usually comes with a couple different size jets for fine tuning, there should be lots of info online for the Venerable Klr..

Does the KLR have a Kleen air system?? Its pretty much a PCV valve, my 250 was backfiring like crazy too after putting on an Akra pipe. Removing the piping and plugging the airbox and valve cover stopped it. My bike has ghetto shims under the needle jetting.

Lean pop on decel in stock condition? Some is OK but not "like crazy". Did somebody remove airbox snorkel? You could attempt to restrict airflow temporarily while waiting on jet kit.

Sorry, op! Thanks inreb! Going back to the stock air filter should help until you get the jets. Doh!

I'd do this. Simple solution until you can get it tuned.
I'm sure there is huge throttle hesitation
