RTI 401 and DVP July 28th and 29th

Have fun on the course. I did mine with RTI in Oakville. Try every style of bike they have. They will encourage you to do so. One bit of info: if you plan to wear a riding jacket, make sure all the armor is in place. Even the back armor. A lady on my course was not allowed to do it as she did not have the back armor. And take your gear to the classroom session and have them look it over. Best of luck!

I did RTI in Guelph, great course. I will echo the same things NtoxEk8d said, check your gear. If you have any doubt I would bring your gear to the evening in class portion. I would say almost a 1/4 of the people in my class were out shopping at Walmart to get the proper gloves or boots.

I did RTI in downtown. Excellent course and lots of fun. Totally agree with what nToxEk8d and Legend said. Make sure u have proper gears. if i remember correctly, RTI minium requirement for equipments are: DOT approve helmet, long sleeve demi jacket, demi pants, cow hide gardener gloves and boots. i'm not sure did they change the rules since i did my course few years ago, correct me if i'm wrong.

Also, check the weather report, make sure bring lotz of water, sunglasses and maybe even a extra t-shirt to change if the weather is hot

Enjoy !!!

I bought a used alpinestars all leather jacket. It has armour for the elbow/forearm and the shoulder. Since it's all leather, is it okay that there isn't back armour? And I bought a DOT + SNELL approved helmet, as well as a pair of leather joe rocket gloves (cheap), and a pair of high ankle hiking boots from wal-mart. I'm planning on taking it in with me on tuesday to have them take a look. Based on my description, do you think I'll be ok for gear?

I'm really excited to start riding. I'm 22 and just finished university and this is my graduation gift to myself :D

Hey
I am going for the couse at RTI on that weekend. which north york location are you going to?

If the jacket has provisions for armor, then they may not allow it. Better have a backup plan. The irony is that a regular denim/leather jacket suffices. If you have one, take it as well. Same goes with the boots. If you have more than one pair, take it just in case. And take heed to xflying's comments about water and an extra T-shirt. Gatorade and other hydrating drinks are definitely needed if it is really hot.

I believe your jacket should be fine because it is leather, mesh/textile ones require the back armour from what I recall. Helmet is cool. The gloves could be fine depends if they cover your wrist bone (well that's instructor told us). I had a Icon short gloves that barely covered my wrists and I also had my Icon Overlord long gloves. He told me to wear the gauntlets. Boots, again depends on the style. As long as they are leather (especially throughout the ankle area, no "stretchy zone") should be okay. But ask your instructor, they are the ones with the VETO power over you.

As xflying said, check the weather. If its gonna be hot bring lots of water and and some salty snacks. I went through 2 Gatorade bottles and 6-8 bottles of water each day when I did my course. Also bring sunscreen you will be happy you did.
