The 0W-40 is a Group IV - the 5W-40 is a Group III+
The 5W-40 has the JASO-MA designation - the 0W-40 doesn't.
I've used both in my GL1800, with no issues.

The dino is now $20??. I wish I'd bought more last year when it was $16 and change on sale for the 5l jug. Anyone know the cost/size at WalMart in the US?

Rotella T (Dino) is about $15 for a 4L jug.
Rotella T6 (Synthetic) is about $27 for a 4L jug.

At least that's what it was down in Knoxville earlier this summer.

From what I recall, Group III is NOT considered a true synthetic in Europe. Only in N. America. Its basically a quality version of dino oil.

That's why 0w-30 Castrol synthec is a "true" synthetic and other grades are not. 0w-30 is actually made in Germany

^ Yep. Live and learn.

" In 2005, production of GTL (gas-to-liquid) Group III base stocks began, the best of which perform much like polyalphaolefin. Group III-base stocks are widely permitted to be marketed as synthetic motor oil with few exceptions where they are not allowed to be marketed as "synthetic" (for example, Germany)."

Just can't get enough of these oil threads.

Thanks.

It's kinda a shame if u ask me. They allow these manufacturers to basically lie to consumers. I've also heard that Mobil 1 is not true synthetic also  I've always held M 1 in high regards

Mobile 1 does make a Group IV (true synthetic), it's required to run it in my Chevy Cobalt SS SC :(

Picked a 4L jug this afternoon to store the track bike for the season...
Can't go wrong for 20$

I believe that is 0w-40, which is manufactured to be used in European cars. I believe it is also made in Europe

Yup, the good stuff never go on sale. Just as Amsoil & Royal Purple.

I got the 6 month membership to Amsoil for $15, been loving it so far :) Picked up oil filters and oil for my bikes and my car :D

Sounds like a waste of $20 to me.

It is... I'm just using the oil to keep the engine topped up for the winter...
I have no idea when the last time the previous owner changed it.
Next year, out comes the Rotella and in goes the Motul.
