How badly have they ****ed this up? What an absolute balls up they made of a good, working system.
 
specifically what don't you like? I didn't like that 'threading' of emails but you can turn it off.
 
I loaded thunderbird for my personal email on my work PC. much better than any web interface.

I'm running Thunderbird portable (and Firefox portable) from an SD card. At the end of the day all my personal stuff come home with me in my wallet. Just in case. You never know. Better to be safe than sorry.

What if you lose the SD card or wallet?

OP...what don't you like about it? Unless they made a change since yesterday I've had no issues with it.

Then I'm screwed. I try not to lose it. Never happened to me so far. BTW, I carry only light personal stuff around. The serious stuff is at home on my laptop.

Not trying to be an ***** just curious if you had another backup for it. I don't actually know what this Thunderbird thing is you guys are mentioning though.
