I seem to have managed to lose my phone and i do not want to re-sign back up with bell for another 3 year term just to get another phone. sadly none of the new guys (wind or the other one) operate in rural areas so I have to go with one of the big 3 and I don't like telus either so it's rogers or fido (subcompany of rogers). Planning on getting the iPhone (yeah i know the new one comes out soon).

what i like about fido is their fido bucks.

both offer many plans that can be suited to each person and their needs.

i would use the websites as a starting point, but i would then phone them up.
they to offer you things over the phone that are not advertised on the websites.

let them know how you want to use your phone and they will come up with a plan that works for you.

you already know the phone you want to get, so the variety of phones offered by each company is already covered.
you already know both have the reception you need based on where you live, so that is covered.

basically just get them to beat each other up for the best package.

i will say, that fido customer service has been top notch for me. and the fido dollars are better than nothing.
every time i hear a bad cell phone story, it is often rogers on the other end of the line.

I have a iphone with Rogers, in toronto, the reception is amazing even when I leave the city, but the customer service is crap.

I have a friend that is with Fido, her reception was good when she lived in Toronto, but she has since moved to Orillia and them to Hamilton, she has commented (and I can hear when talking to her) that the reception has gotten choppy. (I assumed that fido would use the same towers as rogers, being a subcompany, not sure though, so wonder if it's her phone, even though its only a year old.) She refusing to leave Fido because of the great customer service and the pricing. She always has cheapest plans.

virgin mobile, although now a bell sub, has considerably better customer service, they do have iphones, and excelent rural coverage.

3 year contracts are optional, but for an iphone it would be your best bet. (not that id be caught dead with an iphone lol)

Go with Rogers since you travel to rural areas. Fido will work out in those areas but the local calling area is smaller and you could be roaming on the Rogers network depending on where you travel.

no bell subsidiary. **** that. no chance.

lol. and in a few years youl be screaming no rogers subsidiary... there all the same.

yes they are all the same, but my experiences with bell leave me wanting to pull out my own teeth with pliers than deal with them further. my only complaint with rogers was they paid a telemarketing firm to call me and then the telemarketer claimed they weren't soliciting to me on my own cell phone...

Rogers owns FIDO but their plans suck...

Best bet go FIDO get the CityFido plan for 35 bucks gives u unlimited calling EVERYDAY ANYTIME plus unlimited TXT local and international.

for 10$ more a month you get canada wide... so for 45$ you have your run of canada for voice and txt 24/7

Fido hands down.

Fido or Rogers or Bell or Telus or whomever of the big 3 floats your boat, just keep repeating "retention plan"

http://forums.redflagdeals.com/fido-retention-plans-376936/1171/

Now, as far as Fido is concerned, you're a Bell customer and they would want to earn your business, Bell offers A,B,C. Fido, can you do better? If you don't like the answer, hang up, call them again. Might be lucky and get it first shot, or it could take 5-6 phone calls. Red Flag Deals is a big help as it gives you a lot of the information that they don't advertise, publish or want you to know exists.

Good luck and i hope you get a kick *** deal!

didn't get a crazy deal, went with rogers because fido didn't have good long distance, but already got a credit on my bill for the next 3 years for the access fee because when i asked the rep at the store if there was any other fees he said no (he also ****ed up porting my number and I won't be able to work on that til monday). The store rep also put a pass code on my account and didn't tell me, so when i was talking to two reps on the phone they were insulting "maybe you put a pass code on and didn't realize it" wtf, it's not on my paper work and i didn't type anything in cause until i left the store I didn't use anything other than a pen to sign the paperwork. the access fee isn't much but it's the principle of the thing.

Fido sales guy talked me into a bad phone a long time ago. I told him exactly what I needed and he said that this phone was it. Needless to say when I took it back I had to pay through the nose to get out of the plan because they wouldn't do any switch.

Best story was with my brother, when he quit Rogers he told them to write on his account that under no circumstances were they to do any more business with him.

He went to Fido a few years later and bought and paid for a phone for his kid, then they wouldn't hook it up because of his statement on his account.

I got my phone at the Rogers in the tunnels under First Canadian Place and they seemed to be top notch, with very little of the B.S. We've been to a few other Rogers outlets and the representatives seem to be a tier or two below.

Wow, I was too late to the party. I could have got you a pretty sick Voice / Data plan for $35 / month

(I sell Rogers, Fido, Telus, Bell, Virgin, Koodo... You name it.. )

:)

FYI if anybody else wants/needs a new or upgrade phone, definitely drop me a line before purchasing. I was doing up to $200 Bill Credits on Rogers iPhones :|

(and no activation fees)

Going on vacation for 2 weeks starting the 28th however.

I've run with Fido since they opened and like the way they operate. The only downer is interference. I get static when talking on my land line when the cell is nearby and was told by a third party it might have to do with Fido frequencies.
The Fido dollars are good as I get a new phone free every once in a while.
My wife who hates cell phones just got a cheap Koodo plan. For the most basic plan it seemed the best.

Whats rural to you? And how often do you go?? I'm with mobolicity, unlimited everything for 45 bucks, and when I do go up north it works just fine, ya I pay roaming and stuff but its still the cheapest by leaps and bounds

Rural is being surrounded by farmland... on my block there's 1 other house on my side of the street and 3 on the other side of the street. my street runs about 4 or 5km and is 2 "blocks" the next block there's 3 houses on one side and 0 on the other...

the neighbours have a gun range in their back yard.

With wind and mobilicity most calls would be roaming because i'm not in the coverage area often.

I thought Fido was on Roger's network and has the same coverage?

I'm still on Telus's CDMA network and my work phone is on Bell's CDMA network. Doesn't apply to you but Bell's CDMA network has nowhere near the coverage of Telus. But now that they both use the same network for GSM it probably doesn't matter.
