Rode a 100cc bike before a few years back, is 600cc still a big leap?

I rode a 100cc (or 125?) honda motorcycle a few years back for maybe 3-4 months, it from what I remember had 2 levers for shifting, tap front to shift to a lower gear, and tap back to up.

Would you still recommend getting a 250cc at this point?

A 600cc cbr is probably still too much at this point right?

Take a look at this thread.

I'd recommend taking a long hard look at your riding proficiency, your level of confidence, etc... Before taking the advice of some random dudes typing behind a computer screen who don't know you.

The questions are are you comfortable on a motorcycle?
Do you have maturity to respect the machine?

It all depends on your attitude, Yes a 250 will be more forgiving and easier if you don't know wat your doing, but don't turn down what you really want because people have said you will die if you start on a 600.
It depends on your comfort level

I was fine, just not sure of the power of the 600rr.

But then again, if you drive a 250cc I bet the power isn't really comparable either (25hp => 125hp).

:occasion5:

Also look into a sv650s, half way between a 250 and a 600ss

Actually I want something that looks like a 600rr, but isn't a super sport i.e. you can ride sitting more comfortably not hunched over.

I read the cbr500 runs out of steam pretty fast.

BTW, on kijiji I see more fz6r then fz6, and a quick search tells me the fz6 is the better of the 2 right?

Edit: Lot's of people start on 600's and live to tell about it......

The fz6r is like Yamaha's red head headed step child.
But here we go
The R on the fz6r stands for reduced.
The 6r: (the bad)
makes less power than the fz6
Weighs more than the fz6 (8-11lbs)
Non adjustable suspension
No centre stand
High torque down low which sacrifice power up high
Swing arm looks like it belongs on a bicycle.
Cheaper steel tube frame & lower end suspension and brake parts
Narrow 160mm rear tire compared to the 180mm on the fz6
Looks like fz6, fz1 and the gsx 650 f child on welfare.

(the good)
Tuned for low to mid power band (mild state of tune)
Gets 8% better fuel economy compared to the fz6
Looks like a supersport without the supersport performance/ insurance rates

cbr 500 still has an aggressive seating position no?

I wouldn't consider it aggressive. The bars don't sit low enough. That along with the seat and pegs placement gives the bike a more relaxed rider triangle. I thought it felt similar to a CBR250 or Ninja 250 with slightly more leg room and more of a big bike feel.

Get some insurance quotes as well. We have no idea of your age and licence level. Are you starting over again? Aside from a leap in skill, that may or may not be within your level of comfort, a 600cc may be a leap in insurance premiums.

The jump you are talking about from 100cc single to 600cc four cyl supersport is akin to the jump in performance capabilities from a Smart Car and Bugatti Veyron....quite literally.
