Ringing/Whistling type noise

Hey there all,

Recently bought a used 2008 Kawasaki Vulcan 1500 Fi (15,000kms) and I'm brand new to "GTA Motorcycles" community...although I've read quite a few post, I'm now posting to get a little help.

I'm hearing a kind of ringing/whistling type noise coming from the engine. The sound is almost like that ringing noise you get after spending a long night in a loud place...either that, or like a high pitched boiling kettle.

At first, I thought it was because I overfilled my tank and the warmer weather was causing the sound. But, even in this cooler weather, and a tank where the fumes have been released (and ISN'T full), I'm still getting the sound.

The sound isn't deafening by any stretch, but I'm wondering...should I be concerned? Any thoughts as to what it might be?

Thanks for your help!

If you only hear it while moving then I would look for anything on the bike that could produce a "whistle" when the wind passes over it (same idea as blowing across the lip of an open bottle will create a sound) and put some tape on it to see if the sound goes away or changes frequency. The other possibility is the previous owner installed a "deer" whistle, they are supposed to be ultrasonic but some will whistle in frequencies that some humans can hear.

Good call on the Deer Whistle! I'll check it out :)

Checked a little closer, and it's definitely not a deer whistle.

The sound is actually coming from the instrumentation on my gas tank, both while idling and moving...but, only when the engine is running. And like I said earlier, the whistling isn't due to an overfilled gas tank ;-)

Kawasaki tanks are known to whistle its the pressure relief I think, my friends does it all the time when the bike is off, when running he has never said anything about a whistle but his bike is loud..

A quick google search brought up many hits on whistling vulcans.

When you hear the whistle, take the gas cap off. If it still continues, it's not a tank pressure issue but might be an electronics issue in the gauge cluster, could be the whine from the fuel pump located in the tank ( put your ear to gas cap opening when the fuel is low) and if equipped might be the fuel evaporative system (pollution control).

Dude, sounds like you've got a turbo on that thing with blow off valve going off?? Boost is the God!!!!
:lmao:
