Ring 2 or Ring Pro Wifi doorbell

I'm looking around at getting a wifi video doorbell. I've watched a ton of review videos that claim Ring 2 and Ring Pro are pretty good choices but then if you read the follow up comments they seem like garbage.

Anyone out there using one of these wifi video doorbells that you are happy with?

Just make sure you have power going to your doorbell. I bought the Nest and found out I don't have a line going there, so I had to return it. Wasn't ready to start running lines at this time.

You also want to make sure you have strong wifi connection outside of your house

I think the recommendation from ring/nest is maximum 25 feet max away from a router

In most cases that’s unrealistic.

You may need a wifi booster near your door to provide a stronger wifi signal

I have installed many of these
They are all pretty much on par with each other

You do need to pay a fee for online storage if you want to keep the footage.

not exactly a doorbell, but gives me the functionality I need
really easy to install rechargeable battery operated wifi cam
it's outside attached to a brick wall abut 30 ft. from the router - signal has never been an issue

install the app on your phone and get notifications of motion detection events
each notification includes 2 snaps of the motion captured
can also get live streaming of video to the app
above functions are free, but if you want offsite storage of video it's extra $$

there is a little solar panel available for it, but I don't find it's required

I work away from home for 2 week rotations and the battery is still on full bars when I get home
for a little over $100 I consider this little cam a good buy

Sounds like a good solution. How about battery life during winter time? I have the Wyze around our house but not outside.

have been away for 16 days of sub zero temps and battery still fine
over time this may decrease and make the little solar panel - $40 - necessary

The charger in my ring doorbell died after a year or so haven't replaced it yet but will probably go with the pro to avoid the battery and charger.

I thought for the ring doorbell to be cool and useful, you basically had to subscribe. Am I wrong?

They brag about a 1080HD camera but the video quality that I saw on YouTube sucked at best and was not 1080p at all, I've seen toasters shoot better video.

I'm not worried about the paid subscription part of it, but rather that everyone seems to complain that the app sux, lots of false alerts, poor picture quality, long lag from when someone rings the bell to when the app actually connects (I read on average 15 to 30sec delay to connect)... long list of issues.
It seems that the Ring might be the best of the worst

I have no interest in a subscription service, just want to see who is at the door, a phone app is fine and desirable. I dont think I need footage , its not a security concern its more a ' thanks , I dont need your product xxx today monitor' .
What shoulkd I be looking at??

Ring works for live views fine without subscription. The recordings are handy to see who was at the door later if you miss it.

I have one at home (well actually two, I put one in my shed as a security cam) and I also have the Floodlight in the backyard. Plus, I just installed one at my parents house last week that we kids got them for Christmas.

There is a delay between opening the app and connecting. Sometimes it doesn't even capture everything. My truck was "broken into" (my son left it unlocked), and the ******* thing didn't even capture it although my truck door was 6' away. It kind leads me to wonder if there's someway that they blocked my wifi or something, since it captured my son coming home about 2hrs earlier and then me discovering the door was left cracked open (by the thieves) when I left for work. So to see who's at the door when they ring the bell, I would rate it at about a 7/10. As a security camera, I would rate it at a ******* zero.

If you have a doorbell button, then you have power there. The power issue is that most doorbells are only about 5V, while the Ring needs 20V I believe. Lucky my transformer was installed on the side of my electric panel, unlucky that I had to upgrade to a higher output one. For my parents installation I was lucky/lucky because their transformer wasn't easily located, but lucky because I didn't have to upgrade it anyway, lol.

My brother bought my mum in the UK a cheap chinese video doorbell with rechargeable batteries. I asked him for the link, comes to $40 CDN. I think I’ll give that a go, no subscription service or anything (I’m not interested in that). I think there’s an SD card in it somewhere too.

Am using the Honeywell door bell and cam, no subscription and videos are kept 7 days plus it runs off the regular doorbell connection.

I've heard good things about these. Actually have one at the shop when I bought it on sale at my supplier, never bothered to install it yet.
