Ganaraska? Need plates, insurance, and trail passes to be legal.
Gray legal area? I took my son to an industrial area on a holiday and found a big grassy area.
Thanks for the response...
Ganaraska is an option, just wasn't sure if there are any good open areas. I haven't been there and heard there is a lot of trails and single track, might not be great a kid just starting out.

I plan to bring my kids there this summer, 6 and 10. There's everything there. Open parking lots, wide logging roads, double track atv trails, single track bike trails, a nice canteen/rest area.

The Ganny is a great place to teach kids to ride. I've taught all my kids there. The great part about it is you can start them out on the roads and as their skills progress you can venture into the tougher stuff. There's something in there for everyone.
how are you working around requirements for the bike to be registered and insured, while it is used by kids 8-10 year old without any license?

What license do you need to ride off-road?

Appreciate all the input. Anyone know where there is a good spot to park at Ganaraska that has some open riding areas close by? It is hard to tell what area is good for a beginner rider by looking at maps...thanks again.
Another decent place would be "Big Dog Parking" as we call it (because we quite frequently see this big black dog hanging around), look for it bookmarked on this map:

Switch the map to Satellite view, and if you look just West of that parking area you'll see a nice open area between two patches of forest. That big open area would be ideal to watch your boys to make sure they are getting along OK. No trees, nice wide trails - the only issue is that area is sandy and a little whoopsied - otherwise a great learning area.
Also - that parking lot is technically outside of the Ganny; I've never had a problem parking there and I know many others that do, but just be aware.
