Riding aches/pains

I was on the bike for 6 and a half hours today, and I've got to admit that I'm in a bit of pain. I definitely do not have an iron butt, and my shoulders feel like they want to spit my arms out of their sockets. I love it! Had a blast today.

What do you guys do about some minor aches/pains while riding? I'm not much of a pill guy so I'm hoping my butt/shoulders will toughen up over time. I consider myself a fairly fit man, but I never realized how much a sport bike can take out of you! I've got some A535 on the joints now and I'm starting to feel much better. Was gonna go out for a night ride tonight but I think I'll just have a few beers and relax instead.

First long ride or two of the season is always like that. After a few more rides you should be able to ride longer without pain.

A better seat also helps with long distance endurance.
A slightly taller windshield might help reduce overall fatigue.
Handle bar risers might help to take the load off your shoulders too.
A lighter or more aerodynamic helmet might help reduce neck strain and tightness.
You can also use a throttle lock of some sort to ease the stress on your hand/wrist.
Riding with a hydration knapsack also helps reduce dehydration, because low water intake leads to muscle tightness overall.

I do all of the above and it allows me to increase my daily seat time on long trips from about 6 hours to 14. That and I stay in shape all the time.

Grip the tank slightly with your knees, that'll take some of the weight off your arms, shoulders an wrists. Also ride as much as you can, more seat time will help.

Depends a lot on your bike and riding position but yeah early long rides hurt.

From your description you might benefit from risers to reduce that "reach" for the bars.

My kid finally gave up on sports bike seating for long rides ( SV650s ) and switched to an upright FZ8 and loves it....and no no loss of fun.

Join a gym and get fit instead of sitting around off season eating wings a slurping beer!

how old are you and how's is your blood circulation? It makes a big difference on how you body will react.

I'v ridden a 250 that's been modified making the riding position more aggressive and uncomfortable but I can still easily go for 10-12 hours with minimal stops.

Yoga stretching.

I **** you not....nothing helps me more than that. Really stretch out your shoulders and back.

Also remember to stay hydrated.

Try not to stay too rigid and bent over for too long. Change positions often.

Using a tank bag to lean on is good too.

Slowbird is spot on. Work on your core muscles, ride relaxed, it's less tiring. It's also still pretty cool at times and that can take a toll on you.

Picked up my first bike yesterday and rode for about 2 hours if that much... And I gotta say, I'm feeling it today, my arms legs hands and even my neck is killing me... Lol. Only problem I have is that since I'm lent over so much I can't really that far down the road with my helmet. Anyone have suggestions on fixing that? I have a SHOIE RF1200

Why cant you see down the road? Because of neck pain? You can't just tilt your head up? Thats not safe. As for the rest of it, youll get used to it in time as your body adjusts.

I used to take half a percocet before most of my rides. I have bad neck pain and my big heavy helmet doesnt help with that. It got to the point where if i hadnt taken a perc before riding everything would feel off. Like I was riding impaired, even tho I was perfectly sober. So I don't take anything now amd I got a lighter helmet. Maybe a tylenol #1 for a long ride, the caffeine helps you stay focused as well.

No because my helmet is tight on my cheeks but top of the visor is in the way... Like I have to keep moving my helmet up

I have the same helmet...and though I'd call my fitment "snug" rather than tight, I can still see clearly.

I don't understand what the issue you are having is.

Let see if I can explain this better, I'm not doing a good job... Lol... So basically when I start riding even tho it's snug on my cheeks the front of the helmet slides down so when I raise my head up I still see a lot of the top of the helmet... And have to push it up so I can get a better view top side

Sounds like your head shape and that helmet don't coincide too well. I'd say try different helmets on at a store from different manufacturers.

Ok, thanks guys... I guess the guy at the store didn't know what he was talking about because he said it fits good... I have a feeling I'm gonna have to buy a new one. Do I have to switch brand? Or can I just change model?

Yeah that doesn't fit right. My RF-1200 can stay on my head and in place even without the chin strap done up.

Go back to where you bought it and tell them whats happening. At the very least they can order in replacement liners for the inside of the helmet to get it to fit properly or exchange for the proper size.
