Riders with no garage

Most riders I meet have a garage (don't take it for granted) makes life a lot easier, so how many of you guys don't have a garage to use. When it rains I always throw a tarp over the bike but some rain always gets through, thinking of doubling it up, any suggestions.

I guess it could be worse at least I don't live in a condo lol

do you have room for a shed?
something you can buy pre made for a few hundred bucks?
not as big as a garage, but you can get it out the elements and hide it from sight.

or rent a storage unit. a few bucks a months, if one is close to you that is always an option.

if possible, how about a shed?

edit: Anth beat me to it! :)

there's a lot of reasons other than humidity, security, rusting, getting on a wet seat when you're ready to go to work, etc.

Build a shed in your backyard (may be a btch to walk it there every day but if its pouring out you can have it safely there, and you can winterize it there as well).

I am building a 8x10 shed right now, cost was $700 on sale from costco (vinyl)
foundation - approximately $50-75 for limestone screening/rocks
-about $500 for 50 patio stones and 6x6 wood for frame (stones also for making a walkway)
-lots of time to landscape
-maybe some concrete

it's a great project to do if you have the tools. moving the stones/sand is a good workout too.

Sometimes I will park the bike on the edge of my driveway closest to the house (my driveway extends to the side of my house) so the roof covers some of it and its right by my door and somewhat wedged with my car (driveway is raised so the other side is a 6 inch drop/wood block). Throw a cover on it and its generally alright for quick overnights.

but the greatest reason: a place to put your tools/gear and WORK on the bike!

I'm just too lazy to wait 30 seconds for the door to open and close.

I have a shed that's 7 and a half feet by 5 feet. Perfect for my bike port :) I never bother with parking on the street, if I'm not riding its out of sight and out of mind.

Get a good cover for it, the good ones have bungees underneath to tighten the cover over the bike. Alternatively there's some product where you ride the bike into this tentlike contraption and pull a cover over the bike. Like a sort of bike tent.

I have a cousin that built a wicked shed for his CBR600RR. The roof was exactly the height of his bike, but hinged. He'd open it, ride it in, and then fold it up - from the street it just looked like a locking garbage bin.

Bike has only spent one night outdoors, and that was due to a construction project and I was planning on riding the next morning. Even during our reno, our kind neighbour allowed us to park the bikes in her garage until our construction was complete.

we live in a "nice" suburban area, but too many kids allowed to wander at night in our area that I would not trust, especially when school is out

if you got room to put up a shed or something, more power to you.

When i was living at my parnents place, there was no room in the garage for me.. I used to just park on the side walkway of the house to the backyard. But then again, my bike was older than most of the ppl that would be stealing bikes, so I wasn't worried in the least.

But in short, aside from theft, i wouldn't worry about parking outside in an obscure part of the property (not the front or on the street).

That looks like a tent. An expensive tent.

For versatility how about... http://www.canadiantire.ca/AST/brow...me%2BTent%252C%2B15%2Bx%2B11-ft.jsp?locale=en

Even comes with a light...added bonus...when you go away you can sleep with your bike in it.

It's a canvas shed, with 3" steel pipe supporting it. One was good enough to house my bike in, through last winter, without incident. Same for my previous bike, the year before.

You want to talk expensive tents?

I have a garage, but my wife's Santa Fe is squeezed into it (it's small). My bike is in the garage for the winter at one end. But during the riding season it's outside in a fenced in area (totally hidden from the street) on the side of our house and has been for three seasons now with a good cover and 0 issues.

Next house will have a double car garage for sure.

:)

The last really bad wind storm in Hamilton blew over my shed. It was here when I moved into the house 11 years ago. It was time for a new one anyway. As soon as the space is prepared, I'll be getting a new 8x10 shed. Will probably go with a vinyl one.
