I do always wonder though when I see these -- Did the motorcycle strike the pedestrian, or (more likely) the pedestrian strike the motorcycle by walking in front of it. Media never reports it the second way though.

I don't understand how any pedestrian gets hit if they're following the lights unless someone is speeding around a car to make an illegal right or something. OR the pedestrian is jaywalking or one of those people who stand at the very edge of the curb

A lot of pedestrians aren't paying attention to where they're walking because they're too busy texting/talking/playing on their phones, etc. Unfortunately this happens quite often, I've had close calls with them for similar reasons. But in this case we don't know (yet) and it could be anything. Either way, hope both GWS.

I drove by this accident shortly after it happened, the bike (blue Ninja) was laid down on the northbound lanes of Vic Park with the rider laying at the median just south of it. He looked like he was moving and there were people attending to him. Much further south...at least 200 yards... I saw a some pieces of black plastic (looked like car bumper parts...I could be wrong).....then i saw a guy laying on the road against the curb of the median. To me... at a quick glance....it looked like a car could have been involved in this accident as well. One thing I do know, is that I drive by this area everyday and pedestrians are constantly running across the street here...in an effort to catch the southbound buses.

I hope both people involved will recover from this unfortunate event.

I drive by there everyday. Pedestrians can be really careless, crossing without looking. I hope they're ok.

not that i want to wipe a pedestrian off the face of this planet, and chances are with the econo box that i drive, i would sustain injury too...but if you are going to jay walk across vic park, kennedy, warden, drivers drive down those roads at ridiculously speeds, i will not feel too bad that you were too damn lazy to use the crosswalks (then again, apparently in mississauga that won't save you either)...especially bad when people step off the medians with trees and bushes on them...gah...had too many close calls...bike or car...

I heard on news the pedestrian was seriously injured. 2 broken legs plus more..

UPDATE: 10:32AM - thestar.com

Victoria Park Ave. remains closed between York Mills Road and Hwy. 401 due to a collision between a motorcyclist and a pedestrian earlier this morning.

A 47-year-old man was crossing at an unmarked crosswalk just before 7 a.m. when a 23-year-old man struck the pedestrian with his motorcycle, said Const. Clint Stibbe.

The pedestrian was taken to Sunnybrook Trauma Centre with life-threatening injuries, the driver was taken to North York General Hospital with minor injuries.

Police are aiming to have the road reopened by noon.

Forgive my ignorance, but what would they mean by "unmarked crosswalk"? Does that simply mean one with no crossing sign/lights (most likely)?

(Edit: Looks like there's one of those "median style" crosswalks in the area, I'm assuming this is what they were referring to... I've never liked crossing at those, without any sort of Stop or Yield signs for vehicles it's always a risk even on a good day...)

Bad area for jay-walking. All vehicles race up this stretch, zipping across lanes just to get in front to get on the highway. Meanwhile people are constantly running across the road here trying to avoid the center crosswalk zone as it would just slow them down. I'm kind of surprised more accidents don't happen here.

Either way, GWS

Nearly hit a guy myself today. Was on Lawrence going 65 and some guy just darted out in front of me without even looking. He was walking against the lights- of course. I barely managed to avoid him. Gws rider and ped, hope both are going to be ok.
