RF1100 vs. Corsair-V vs. ???

Hey All - I'm looking around for a new helmet. I have a Scorpion EXO-700 right now, and I'm finding that it hurts my jaw after about 90 minutes of riding. So, I'm looking to upgrade into something a bit higher end, and I'm having a hard time deciding what to get.

I have tried on a few RF-1100s and they feel pretty comfortable, but I think there may be too much space in the face area...it feels a bit loose on the lower half. Sizing down makes the whole thing pretty tight, and it wouldn't break in enough to be usable.

The Arai helmets generally fit pretty well, but I'm not sure which model to get. They all feel good to me, and I don't notice a drastic difference in shell shape between models. I'm leaning toward the Corsair-V in some graphic pattern, but I'm not sure which one yet. The only thing I don't like about it is the price...my head is a worthy investment, but it's still a large sum of money.

So - Anything I should know about these helmets, recommendations, suggestions for other models? Does anyone know if the Shark helmets are being stocked anywhere in Ontario now? I tried on an HJC RPS-10 and some Bell helmets but none seemed to fit my melon very well.

Get the helmet that fits you best. Nothing worse than a poor fitting helmet to make you NOT ride your bike. Arai shield system sucks big time. Tons of people breaking pieces off them (Google it), me included. That's sad because the Arai Quantum fit me best of all but I would never buy another one. I love my Shark RSR and will most likely pick up the Shark Speed R shortly.

Good advice.

I ended up picking up an Shoei RF-1100 Chroma. Feels great, ventilation is very good on it. It blows around a lot less than my EXO-700 while doing shoulder checks. My girlfriend also got a Shoei Qwest and has been liking it.

To anyone thinking of picking up a Bell Arrow helmet, I wouldn't, unless you have a L or XL head. The padding inside is very soft and it gets pretty loose over time.

The guy at the shop said he hadn't had much luck with the Shark helmets.

I think that people overstress to get what fits you best, but they often overlook that it isn't always about that. A crappy helmet can fit you best, but have no ventilation, be really noisy, etc.

Shark, the most underrated helmet company IMO. I like the Qwest better than the RF1100 but compared to my RSR2 the visors are just so cheap. I find the different Arai lines to fit very different. Corsair V fits me great but not the Profile.
I've had my RSR2 for almost 5yrs now so it's time to find a new lid. Likely get another Shark as I really love it. Awesome venting, never fogs, excellent shield and locking, light, I like how the visor can be tightened for resistance instead of having 'notches' for how far it opens.

How do you overstress getting a helmet that fits properly? That makes no sense.

He is just saying that comfort is based on a variety of factors that include more than just straight up fit.

Ventilation / noise and other things ( unfortunately not easily tested at a store) are also things that will contribute to your comfort and thus safety.

I have the rf1100 and find it super hot!! The next helmet I buy will definitely have better ventilation!!

If the price of the Corsair bothers you,try a Vector2.Just bought one this spring.Very comfy and lite for $700.

I have owned both and currently wear the RF1100. Find it a ver high quality helmet with good fit and vents. Visors are earier to change than the Arai.

Both are very good - get the one that fits you best.
