Review: Advanced Road Craft

I recently took the Advanced Road Craft motorcycle course as it was promoted by BMW Motorrad. Great course! The course is geared toward handling your motorcycle in an urban environment, as opposed to track. If you're looking to improve your lap time, this isn't the course. It is, however, a fantastic course for those of us who ride the streets and want something more than M2X. I have taken M2, M2X, Intermediate and Advanced from RTI and I found this course was the most challenging.

Day one: Classroom - review of fundamentals, learning the system: Information, Position, Speed, Gear, Acceleration.

Day two: Road - small group of riders with the instructor, Mick. After a warm up exercise of hard braking, Mick led the group to a couple of challenging pieces of road. Mick led at first and then we took turns leading, with Mick riding behind the leader to offer feedback on their handling.

I highly recommend it.

Very interesting! The British model of "road craft" is something that's always fascinated me. Originated with police bike training, I seem to recall.

It seems to run once a month, and the next course is June 2nd to 3rd. It sure looks like something I'd enjoy!
