Restrictor Kit?

Hey Guys,

I have called a few bike mechanics and I am hoping I will get my answers here.

Is there anyone here who has heard about the restrictor kits? Basically, in England when people get their A2 licence, they are required to ride a bike with a 33bhp (break horse power) or ride a bike which is 250cc. Anyway, so what people do is instead of buying a smaller bike and selling it later, they buy a big one like Yamaha R6 or R1 and restrict so it only produces 250cc or 33bhp of power. When their restriction period is over, they remove the kit and they get to experience a new bike all over again. After the kit is installed, it is recommended that a dyno test to be performed. Anyway, did anyone here do it? Or knows someone who can install a restrictor kit?

Obviously there are pros and cons, I have looked into it all. Just wondering if someone can do it. And I called and talked to two people from Yamaha who said basically bike programming is the same between England and Canada meaning same software, BMW said the same thing about their S1000RR the guy at BMW also said that if I want I can import a restricted bike from one of their dealerships in the U.K. That will be crazy expensive!

Smaller bike is always an option (Ninja 300). However, if this method works and people in Europe and the U.K rave about it and the bike maintenance is the same (insurance is expensive) then why not give it a try, yes the bike will be heavy and the usual.

Other than getting a smaller bike and not a big to restrict, what is your opinion?

(I am a tinkerer, I like satisfy my tech craving so lets consider it from a tech perspective).

Why it is not needed here so kind of a pointless waste of money, you have the power to restrict the throttle by not turning it. Buy what you want and use your own restraint, if you like smaller bikes or have no self control buy a small bike.
