reliability of multistrada 1200s touring?

I sure as hell wouldn't buy the first year model, but a '12 would do you right!

Ducati is retroactively fixing and updating the '10s but that cant be fun for owners....

There has been some recalls and updates, not sure if they have fixed all the problems. Seems all the reports were on the 2010 models, I would imagine by 2012 they have worked out the bugs. Definitely a sharp looking bike, my second favourite in terms of looks, after my GSA. They sound great to, what a rumble they have.

Any word yet on quality/reliability on the 2012s?

I've seen a number of them when touring, everyone I talk to absolutely loves it. No one has mentioned any reliability problems, though they probably exist

I would have no trouble buying one or taking it anywhere. Sure there are problems, but nothing that makes it a complete dud that should never leave the garage. With a brand new Ducati, you get 2 years unlimited mileage warranty, so rack up the miles!

If it had a shaft I would be much much, more tempted by it, but beautiful bike none the less.

I bought a brand new 2011 Multistrada S Touring back in May. I've only put about 5000 KM on it but I haven't experienced any problems whatsoever. My last bike was a Bandit 1250 which was absolutely bulletproof and, to be quite honest, I was a little concerned about the reliability of the Ducati after owning only Japanese bikes. So far so good.

A co-worker has one. He says when it works it is a fantastic bike... it is in for repair more often than not. His was the first model year, so maybe those issues have since been worked out, but reliabilty does not appear to be as good as some of its competition.

Love the look of the bike and test rode it a few weeks ago. For only 2k on the odometer, the engine sounded like a sewing machine and imagine it has been ridden hard...but still. It pulled like a freight train and you could easily tow a 200 kg, trailer behind it. At highway speeds it hardly broke a sweat. The brakes were excellent and stopped on a dime. 2 years ago I demo'd a BMW 1200 GS and the experience was similar, an excellent bike but engine noise was non-existent and was smooth as silk. The advantage with this bike is parts are readily available and likely will have less technical issues. Oh yeah and since Audi has recently bought Ducati I expect the same excellent German engineering will be coming to Ducati in the next short while. It may be better to wait for improvements to show up.
