Ok im a new owner 28 with a 05 Ninja 250 - I just wanted to start another standard thread/poll for whining about insurance rates. What i really wanted to find out if im the only person not making the most out of my insurance on my motorcycle. I know i know that you cant have a discussion about motorcycles, consumption, utility, rationality and price without being trolled but what the hell, here it goes.
I wanted to ask you folks about the EFFECTIVE USAGE and RELATIVE COST of insurance. Here's what i mean:
I'll take my example: I have car and a motorcycle and I use my motorcycle for 4000k per year and my car for around 16000km. Im paying $60/month (M2/SF/28) and $100/month for my car. But effectively i use my car 4 times as much in a year. Not that its relevant but my car's (Corolla) is worth 4 times as much as my bike. So using this very basic and stupid scenario, i feel that on a per mile basis of consumption im paying 4-8 times more for motorcycle usage than for a car. This is not a hard and fast calculation, i know people can own SS motorbikes and shitboxes for cars and vice versa. Furthermore this assessment may be biased by many many many factors or by personal usage patterns.
I dont want a complex discussion on this issue (nor a troll session) - I know what im asking is useless knowledge, wont change anything for rates but it'll help me make peace with my rates so if you could use personal judgement and post how must relative to your car usage/consumption you are paying for a bike it'll be awesome. I know this is not a scientific poll and a lot depends on our personal assessment in this one but it'll let us put in perspective where the average is for a typical biker.
Just note the range between [0-1] means you're paying relatively less for the bike adjusted for year round usage. If you ride your bike year round and clock lots more miles than your car while paying just as much you're in this category. Feel free to post your relative insurance cost numbers below - details car type / miles per year etc are optional.
